Bus Driver

Job Title: Bus DriverThe Bus Driver is responsible for the safe operation of Rice University buses and for providing excellent transportation and customer service to the Rice community and visitors. The driver must serve as an ambassador to the Rice community and remain tactful at all times. The driver will provide detailed information to passengers on campus events, parking, building locations, and METRO information as needed. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change. This role is classified as an essential position, requiring on-site presence to effectively carry out its vital functions.Hourly Hiring Rate: $18.20. *Non-Exempt (hourly) positions under FLSA are eligible for overtime.Minimum Requirements:High school diploma or equivalentSix months of related bus driving experienceMust possess and maintain a Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement, with no more than three (3) moving violations or at-fault accidents in the past three years, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) within the past 10 yearsAbility to clean and sweep busesPreferences:School bus driving skills and experience interacting with students, staff, and visitors regularlyExcellent customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with customersAbility to represent the university professionallyBasic computer knowledgeCommercial bus driving skillsAbility to work with diverse individuals and provide relevant informationAbility to operate electronically equipped vehiclesEssential Functions:Transport university community members and guestsFollow safety rules and comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous mannerProvide embarking and disembarking assistance to passengers as neededMaintain order among passengers during trips to ensure safetyProvide detailed information to passengers about campus events, parking, buildings, and METRO information as neededCheck the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure everything is in working orderReport any bus malfunctions or needed repairsMaintain knowledge of first-aid proceduresPrepare and submit reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, and fuel consumptionPerform all other duties as assignedRice University is committed to ensuring Equal Employment Opportunity and welcoming the fullness of diversity into our candidate pools.
