Maintenance Supervisor IV – Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, General Maintenance, and Construction Division: Facilities Division Region: V Primary Location: Childress, Texas, United States Job Summary Performs highly advanced supervisory maintenance and construction work. The Supervisor oversees maintenance and construction staff involved in the installation, care, and repair of state facilities and equipment, including supervising inmate workers. The role operates with minimal supervision, exercising extensive initiative and independent judgment. Essential Functions Oversees, supervises, inspects, schedules, assigns, prioritizes, and participates in general maintenance, construction, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and refrigeration work, including preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance; coordinates assignments with other supervisors; and provides technical expertise. Oversees the preparation of estimates for work hours, materials, and resources required for projects; approves and initiates requisitions for materials and supplies; and prepares reports and maintains records of repairs. Trains and supervises inmate maintenance and construction workers; ensures compliance with applicable safety rules, regulations, and standards. Assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates. Performs a variety of marginal duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education, Experience, and Training Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent, or GED. Four years full‑time, wage‑earning experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment. Or an associate’s degree in HVAC or Refrigeration from a CHEA or USDE accredited college with two years full‑time, wage‑earning experience; Or completion of a program in HVAC or Refrigeration from a CHEA or USDE accredited trade or technical school with three years full‑time, wage‑earning experience;** Or completion of a program in HVAC or Refrigeration from a U.S. Military Technical training school with three years full‑time, wage‑earning experience. Experience in the installation of HVAC or refrigeration preferred. Experience in the supervision of inmates preferred. Current EPA‑approved Universal Refrigerant Containment Certification. Must maintain valid license(s) for continued employment in the position. Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure as defined by state law. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment. Knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems maintenance policies, procedures, and techniques. Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred. Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely. Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public. Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Skill in problem‑solving techniques. Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports. Skill to review technical data and prepare technical reports. Skill to plan work in order to meet established guidelines. Skill in the use of HVAC and refrigeration equipment, tools, and test equipment. Skill to train and supervise the work of inmates.
