About the Role:

The Afterschool Teacher plays a vital role in supporting the academic and social development of students outside regular school hours. This position is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where children can complete homework, participate in educational activities, and develop essential life skills. The teacher will collaborate with parents, school staff, and other stakeholders to ensure each child's individual needs are met effectively. Additionally, the role involves managing student pickups and ensuring their safe transition to and from the program. Ultimately, the Afterschool Teacher contributes to fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere that encourages continuous learning and personal growth.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting.
• Basic knowledge of academic subjects to assist students effectively.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for managing student pickups.
• Clear background check and compliance with state and local regulations for working with minors.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field.
• Certification in First Aid and CPR.
• Experience in afterschool program instruction or tutoring.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with children, parents, and staff.
• Familiarity with behavior management techniques and inclusive teaching practices.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise and assist students with homework and academic tasks to reinforce classroom learning.
• Plan and implement educational and recreational activities that promote cognitive and social development.
• Manage daily student pickups and ensure all children are safely accounted for during arrival and departure times.
• Maintain clear communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and any concerns.
• Create and uphold a structured, safe, and inclusive environment that supports the well-being of all students.

Skills:

The required academic skills enable the Afterschool Teacher to effectively support students with homework and learning activities, ensuring comprehension and academic progress. Proficiency in managing pickups is essential for maintaining student safety and coordinating timely transitions between school, program, and home.
