Operations Director – Data Center The Operations Director is accountable for the overall success of data center operations for the client account, managing resources to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the data center portfolio while maximizing up‑time and site efficiencies. This role provides leadership and expertise in managing all aspects of operations and critical environments, including client service, employee development, financial stewardship, and field execution. The director interprets, communicates, and establishes engineering services and critical environments management strategies, ensuring integration of all services and delivery within agreed service levels. Key Responsibilities Manage all engineering services activities and maintain interface with client Corporate Real Estate personnel. Ensure total contract compliance with all criteria, including quantitative cost savings and qualitative customer service specifications. Oversee day‑to‑day performance of the assigned team, delivering services within stated service levels, processes, and procedures. Analyze metrics and reporting tools to verify that the portfolio is managed within goal parameters, measuring cost savings and value‑add contributions. Provide input and support to strategic planning initiatives, identifying portfolio and savings reduction opportunities. Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, ensuring clear and timely communication across regions and geographies. Maintain updates to all systems, support tools, and ensure accuracy and timeliness of data. Support process owners with training, education, and expectation setting to ensure adherence to processes and procedures. Prepare input for annual financial plans, manage capital within approved budgets, and sponsor forecasted or unforeseen expenditures. Provide oversight and direction of critical infrastructure projects, including planning guidelines, commissioning, and close‑out. Ensure proper maintenance of archives for drawings, schematics, manuals, warranty documents, and other critical information. Manage communications during critical emergencies, including root cause analysis and prevention of repeat failures. Guarantee that all properties are operated, maintained, and tested in accordance with local, state, national, and client requirements. Manage suppliers and direct reports, optimizing resources for maintenance and repair services. Develop succession planning programs, including onboarding and off‑boarding for account rotation and employee transitions. Qualifications 5+ years of operational experience leading teams in a data center environment. Demonstrated leadership in people and customer management with strong oral and written communication, negotiation, and analytical skills. Strategic thinker with the ability to develop alternative plans and execute solutions. Strong analytical ability to assess all influencing factors and recommend actions. Excellent organizational, judgment, problem‑solving, and crisis management skills. Exceptional interpersonal and relationship‑building abilities. Fundamental knowledge of critical systems such as emergency/stand‑by generators, automatic transfer switches, UPS, power distribution, and batteries. Proficiency in Building Management Systems, Life Safety Systems, CMMS, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Visio, and Outlook. Extensive electrical, mechanical, and plumbing knowledge of commercial facilities with a strong background in critical data center operations. Proven record of delivering excellent internal and external customer service. Certification or experience with data center environmental and power management is a plus.
