Overview Metro Therapy, Inc. (a Powerback Rehabilitation company) has been serving the educational and developmental needs of pediatric populations throughout the greater New York City area for over thirty years. Responsibilities Collect, interpret, and synthesize information about a student’s sensory motor/perceptual functioning, academic achievement, intelligence, social/emotional adjustment, and significant crises that impact learning. Provide comprehensive services to parents, students, and school staff, addressing barriers that limit educational benefit. Respond to referrals from school administration, parents, teachers, the Student Support Team, and the Special Education Team by offering direct and consultative services. Assist families in accessing appropriate community resources. Serve students with and without physical, behavioral, emotional, intellectual, and developmental challenges. Participate on student support teams (multi‑tiered support service / response to intervention) and special education committees; act as a psychological services resource. Select and administer age‑appropriate assessment methods to determine student needs. Consult with teachers and other school personnel to obtain information related to referral reasons. Review student records to identify prior barriers and interventions. Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary assessment team, contributing to placement decisions and development of intervention plans. Communicate case findings and recommendations to teachers and other school personnel as needed. Participate in eligibility committee meetings and contribute to Individualized Education Plan (IEP) development. Conduct parent interviews by phone, in person, or home visits to gather socio‑developmental information for referrals and assessments. Analyze information from assessments, observations, record reviews, and interviews to determine environmental impacts and appropriate resources; integrate findings into written reports and oral presentations. Provide follow‑up support to staff and students and perform re‑evaluations as necessary. Attend and participate in manifestation meetings. Interview students and parents regarding non‑attendance issues and develop action plans. Assist the school in following board regulations for excessive absences and truancy; attend student support team meetings and court interventions. Develop and implement professional development training for staff and parents as requested. Act as a member of the school crisis team and provide individual or group counseling during school‑wide crises. Engage in professional development activities related to current trends and best practices for comprehensive school social work services. Serve as a liaison among the student, home, school, private counseling facilities, and community resources such as social services, court services, and family service agencies. Maintain ongoing liaison with community agencies and refer parents and students when appropriate. Manage caseload, meetings, assessments, and consultations in a timely manner. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Master’s degree in School Psychology from an accredited program. Professional Educator’s License (PEL) required.
