The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a full‑time (37.5 hours/week) Maintainer (PCN 102686) for the Southwest CT Mental Health System (SWCMHS) in Bridgeport. DMHAS is dedicated to promoting the health and wellness of individuals with behavioral health needs through an integrated, holistic network of services that foster dignity, respect, and self‑sufficiency. Schedule First shift: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week with a ½‑hour unpaid lunch. Benefits Comprehensive state employee benefits Access to the State Employee Benefits Overview page to explore available options Professional growth and development opportunities A commitment to supporting a healthy work/life balance Responsibilities Maintain campus grounds, parking areas, and related structures while ensuring compliance with state and federal codes and standards Perform a wide range of preventative maintenance tasks within a Joint Commission–accredited state hospital Assist skilled trade staff, support state vehicle fleet maintenance, and participate in equipment assembly, inspections, and inventory control Escort contractors, conduct fire watches and safety watches, and support safe operations during construction activities Complete work orders and accreditation‑related documentation, and assist with office moves, courier runs, and asset/equipment management Provide office moves of equipment and furniture as directed, including assisting with asset management and equipment control Courier runs and/or pickups between facilities Maintenance management of state vehicles Participation in medical equipment assembly, inventory control and inspection related activities Responsible for assisting skillmaintainer with grounds and landscaping activities at the hospital campus and other agency properties Review and complete work orders and other inspection and accreditation related documentation on a daily basis or as otherwise required Escort / Assist contractors in the hospital, conduct fire watches and other safety watches during construction activities within the hospital and grounds Assist employees of a higher job class in all trade areas, assist with scheduling of state vehicle fleet maintenance Job Requirements Any experience and training that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below Medical examination, including drug screening, required following a conditional offer of employment Knowledge, Skill and Ability Interpersonal skills Oral and written communication skills Follow oral and written instructions Learn policies and procedures Operate, care for and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work Record keeping Minimum Qualifications Any experience and training that provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting Experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping Valid CT Driver’s License Experience working with trucks, landscaping equipment, trailers, and equipment such as a bobcat Knowledge of and experience in preventative maintenance activities and best practices Experience using a work order system Proficiency in Word and Excel computer software Oral and written skills Experience managing inventory and maintenance of small equipment and machines Special Requirements Incumbents may be required to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and/or certifications.
