Specialty Care Outpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN)

The Specialty Care Outpatient Staff Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based specialty care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the clinic setting. This nurse provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization. Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic, specialty care through collaborative strategies with others. Evaluates practice in an ongoing process, based on best evidence. Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Contributes professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team. Partners with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes. Supports colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality specialty nursing care. Shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers. Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. Participates in activities and strategies to sustain an evidence-based-practice culture. Coverage for nursing staff during times of need in various surgery outpatient clinics, including podiatry, gynecology, urology, general surgery, vascular, ophthalmology, ENT clinics. Coordination/oversee clinic activity and patient flow. Work close with and assist in all patient care activities within RN scope of practice. Documentation as required by any patient intervention/interaction. Check patients into exam rooms, vital signs, communication of vital signs to provider and other patient information. Assist provider during exam as needed. Clean all equipment and exam space per protocol between patients. Telephone/secure message triage. Preoperative calls. Patient advocacy. Liaison/coordinator with private sector providers. Stock exam rooms and conduct daily inspection of all areas. Survey readiness. Ordering supplies. Work orders. Communicate with service administration concerning any issues/needs that impact the clinic. Ability to triage outpatient consults and work with Veteran with preferences for care according to Mission Act and any other directive related to community care access. Knowledge of and ensuring correct documentation with use of implants. Expert knowledge of services offered by vascular services. Expert computer and telephone skills. Ability to be flexible and work in multiple areas.
