Associate Head Coach I - Sailing

Overview

Located five miles from downtown Boston, Tufts University is a Division III member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the highly-competitive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Tufts student-athletes participate in 30 varsity sports, 32 club sports and a number of intramural sports. Tufts Athletics has won 19 NCAA team championships since 2010 and has finished in the top 10 of the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup every year for the past decade, including winning the Director's Cup in 2022 as the top Division III Athletic Department in the nation. Tufts Athletics oversees the University’s Physical Education Department and manages all athletics facilities. What You'll Do

Under general supervision, works with Head Coach to coach student-athletes on the Coed and Women's Sailing teams. Determines practice strategies, ensures consistency in coaching when traveling to competitions, monitors the performance and development of student-athletes and ensures adherence to conference and university rules and guidelines.

• Partners with the Head Coach at practices, team meetings and at competitions to coach the Coed and Women’s Sailing programs.
• Recruits a portfolio of qualified prospective student-athletes, including organizing visits, maintaining active communication, and collaborating with the Head Coach on both short- and long-term recruiting goals; Ensures timely submission of records for admission.
• Partners with Head Coach to ensure an appropriate split of time traveling with the Coed and Women’s Sailing Teams to competitions and provide consistency in coaching, rostering decisions, and overall student-athlete experience.
• Plays an active role in alumni outreach efforts, including curating weekly and annual updates, organizing annual fundraising events, and ensuring timely donor acknowledgement.
• Assists with other program operations as necessary.
• Performs an assigned secondary duty for the Department of Athletics.
• Ensures adherence to all association, conference and university rules by student-athletes and supporting staff.

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:

• Bachelor's Degree
• • 2-4 years of sailing coaching experience
• • Possession of a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

• • National level collegiate playing experience as a sailing student-athlete
• • ICSA or ISSA coaching experience
• • Experience working with video editing software for film review
