California Rehabilitation is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Occupational Therapist (Lead OT) to join our team at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, California. This leadership opportunity is ideal for a licensed Occupational Therapist who is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care while mentoring and supporting a team of rehabilitation professionals in an acute care hospital setting.

The Lead OT serves as the clinical and operational leader of the Occupational Therapy department, overseeing daily operations, staff development, patient care quality, and departmental performance. Working closely with the Director of Rehabilitation and hospital leadership, the Lead OT ensures that occupational therapy services are delivered efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.

This position offers the opportunity to combine clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities while making a meaningful impact on patient outcomes and team success.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to Occupational Therapy staff.
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
• Assign patient caseloads and departmental responsibilities to ensure equitable workload distribution and operational efficiency.
• Foster a positive, collaborative work environment that promotes employee engagement, professional growth, and clinical excellence.
• Ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy services.
• Oversee patient evaluations, treatment planning, progress monitoring, and discharge recommendations to support optimal patient outcomes.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, rehabilitation professionals, and other interdisciplinary team members to provide coordinated patient care.
• Monitor departmental productivity, resource utilization, and operational performance.
• Assist with budget management and identify opportunities for efficiency and continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational regulations, policies, and accreditation standards.
• Participate in facility and corporate committees as assigned.
• Support the education and supervision of Occupational Therapy students.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Master's or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
• Current California Occupational Therapist license (OTR/L) in good standing.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of clinical occupational therapy experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of leadership, supervisory, or lead clinician experience preferred.
• Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of occupational therapy principles, evidence-based practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and healthcare documentation systems.
• Demonstrated ability to motivate teams, manage priorities, and promote a culture of accountability and excellence.
• Specialty certifications and advanced clinical training are preferred.
