Central Sterile Technician

40 hrs/wk; M-F, 10:30a-7p. Weekend and Holiday rotation.
The Central Sterile Processing Technician is a hands-on, safety-focused role responsible for ensuring all instruments and supplies used across the facility are processed, sterilized, and stored consistent with infection prevention standards, manufacturers' instructions, and regulatory expectations. This position safeguards patient outcomes by delivering reliable sterile products through disciplined decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and inventory control processes.


Essential functions include:

• Decontamination: Safely handle and clean contaminated instruments using approved detergents, ultrasonic cleaning, and manual methods while following PPE and safety protocols.
• Inspection & maintenance: Carefully examine instruments for cleanliness, integrity, and functionality; document defects and remove nonconforming items from circulation.
• Assembly & packaging: Build surgical and procedure-specific trays with accurate instrumentation counts and appropriate packaging to meet sterilization standards and clinician needs.
• Sterilization management: Operate sterilization equipment, document cycle parameters, perform daily/weekly quality checks, and respond to alerts or failures.
• Storage & distribution: Organize sterile storage areas, monitor expiration/sterility indicators, and coordinate timely delivery of supplies to Surgical Services and other departments.
• Documentation & inventory: Maintain meticulous records of processing, sterilizer logs, inventory levels, and supply orders to support compliance and operational efficiency.

This role requires close collaboration with surgical teams, supply chain, and clinical departments to ensure availability and quality of sterile items. Weekend and holiday rotation is required. Minimum education: High school diploma or GED. Certification: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through HSPA required upon completion of 12 months in role and 400 hours worked; employees must keep certification current for the duration of employment. Previous healthcare or sterile processing experience is preferred and will be considered an asset during candidate selection.
