VOALA provides a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities such as Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans' services, homeless shelters, low-income housing program as well as drug and alcohol rehabilitation.PAY RATE: $29.76 - $31.33 Per Hour BENEFITS: VOALA offers competitive medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits.JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSEReporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Lead Maintenance Technician has responsibility for oversight of construction, repairs and maintenance operations for designated VOALA sites. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPlans and executes repair, maintenance and construction projects at an apartment complex or program facilityLeads facility maintenance staff; provides leadership, directs work, oversees employee performance and provides staff trainingPerforms various facility maintenance repairs and maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and carpentry, assembles maintenance team for larger projects/repairsPerforms inspections and reports routine and other needed repairs, prioritizes maintenance actionMaintains records including but not limited to work orders, supply receipts, and other project related informationWorks with vendors as well as program participants and/or tenants, as applicableOther duties as assignedESSENTIAL ABILITY ACKNOWLEDGEMENTAbility to work and deal with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients as VOALA serves the neediest of the needy in our programs, which may include clients with homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse, recently released from incarceration, and other challenges.ESSENTIAL DUTIESServices for this position must be provided on-site. As a result, the position requires incumbents to report to work on-site each day of active employment.Plans and executes both routine maintenance and required facility repair projects, assigning Maintenance Technicians and teams as appropriateOversee all work performed by maintenance staff, coordinate completion of work ordersPerforms repairs as neededMaintain work records and work ordersConducts regular inspections of apartment complexOther duties as required and may be subject to changeMANDATED REPORTERAs service providers to the underprivileged and vulnerable in our community, all employees are considered Mandated Reporters, and must report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities.QualificationsREQUIREMENTSMust be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verificationsAbility to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients as VOALA serves the neediest of the needy in our programs which may include clients with homelessness, mental-illness, substance abuse, recently released from incarceration and other challenges.EXPERIENCEMinimum of 4 years of experience in facilities maintenance or construction, with proven skill in a construction specialty (plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry, HVAC, for example)Experience leading a team of maintenance or construction workers.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or GEDFormal training in a Construction Trade specialty (plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry, HVAC, etc.)Current California driver's license and clean driving recordVolunteers of America is an Equal Opportunity employer.
