**Preferred Qualifications:** - Six months experience preferred working in the performance of ultrasound and must be registry eligible. **Regulatory Requirements:** - Meets requirements for registry by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. **Responsibilities and Skills:** - Performs ultrasound exams utilizing proper established procedures. - Demonstrates excellent knowledge in all specialized areas of ultrasound. - Interprets ultrasound exam to provide interpreting physicians with technical findings. - Performs clerical skills for documentation and record keeping. - Maintains infection control and uses universal precautions. - Has attended departmental orientation and annual in-service education. - Provides basic patient care and comfort. - Anticipates patient needs and establishes rapport. - Explains procedures and instructs patients on techniques. - Identifies life-threatening situations and delivers emergency care as allowed. - Maintains and stocks ultrasound labs. **Physical Requirements:** - Utilize hands for manipulating transducer and using equipment. - Lift and move supplies weighing approximately 10-25 pounds. - Pull and push equipment up to 100 pounds on wheel casters. - Stand approximately 2 hours per day and walk throughout the hospital. - Sit for periods of time exceeding 3 hours. - Climb four flights of stairs and utilize step stools. - Handle patients gently and feel pulse points and skin texture. - Clearly hear alarms and verbal communication. - Vision required to read and interpret information, charts, and exam results. **Mental Requirements:** - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers. - Remember test protocols and interpret results. - Read, interpret, and communicate medical information clearly. - Write down test results and verbally communicate effectively. - Employ reasoning for decision making in supply orders and patient diagnosis.
