Coordinator, Psychological Services

The Psychological Services Coordinator in the University Accessibility Center (UAC) provides comprehensive accessibility services and academic accommodation coordination for students with learning, attention, and emotional disabilities and health-related conditions that substantially limit one or more major life activities. The Coordinator works collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and university offices to identify and remove barriers to equal access and participation in the university's academic, residential, extracurricular, and physical environments.

The Coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for assigned students and is responsible for reviewing disability-related documentation, meeting individually with students to understand the impact of their disabilities in the university environment, engaging in an interactive process to identify appropriate accommodations, determining and coordinating reasonable academic accommodations, and communicating approved accommodations to faculty and other appropriate university personnel.

The Coordinator provides consultation and advocacy regarding disability access, assists students in understanding their rights and responsibilities, and works with faculty and university departments to address accommodation-related questions and concerns. The position may coordinate with campus partners regarding accessible classrooms, housing, transportation, facilities, technology, testing, clinical or experiential learning environments, and other university programs and activities as directed. Cross coordination and collaboration occurs between multiple coordinators in the UAC.

The Coordinator ensures that UAC practices are consistent with applicable federal and state laws and university policies governing access for students with disabilities, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as applicable.

The Coordinator may also provide services to students with other disabilities or assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the UAC Director.

What you'll be doing in this position

The University Accessibility Center seeks to provide students with disabilities equal access to university programs, services, activities, and facilities and to create an environment that facilitates learning and enables students to reach their full potential. The Psychological Services Coordinator plays a central role in identifying and addressing barriers experienced by students with disabilities and in coordinating appropriate and reasonable accommodations.

Coordination of Accessibility Services and Accommodations

• Provides individualized intake, consultation, and accommodation services to students with learning, attention, and emotional disabilities and health-related conditions.
• Meets individually with students to understand their disability-related experiences, functional limitations, academic barriers, and accommodation needs.
• Conducts an individualized review of disability-related documentation submitted by licensed or otherwise qualified healthcare and rehabilitation professionals.
• Evaluates documentation for relevance, recency, credibility, and sufficient information regarding functional limitations and the need for accommodations.
• Communicates with students and, when appropriate and authorized, qualified professionals or other relevant parties to obtain clarification or additional information regarding accommodation needs.
• Engages students in an interactive process to identify reasonable accommodations that provide equal access while maintaining the essential requirements of academic programs and courses.
• Determines appropriate academic accommodations based on the student's documented functional limitations, the requirements of the academic environment, and applicable disability laws and university policies.
• Prepares and sends official accommodation notification letters to faculty and other appropriate university personnel identifying approved accommodations.
• Educates students regarding their approved accommodations, responsibilities for utilizing accommodations, and processes for communicating with faculty.
• Consults with faculty regarding the implementation of approved accommodations and responds to questions or concerns regarding accommodation letters.
• Works collaboratively with faculty and academic departments to distinguish between reasonable accommodations and fundamental alterations to academic programs, courses, or essential requirements.
• Coordinates accommodations for classroom instruction, examinations, field experiences, internships, practicums, clinical experiences, laboratories, and other academic settings as appropriate.
• Collaborates with university offices to address accessibility issues involving classrooms, facilities, housing, transportation, technology, campus events, and other university programs and services.
• Coordinates with appropriate campus partners when accommodations require implementation or collaboration beyond the UAC.
• Provides information regarding accessible technology, adaptive equipment, assistive devices, and other resources when appropriate.
• Maintains accurate and timely case documentation and records in accordance with UAC procedures, FERPA, and applicable privacy requirements.
• Maintains the confidentiality and privacy of student disability information.
• Responds to student, faculty, staff, and other university inquiries regarding disability services, accommodations, and accessibility.
• Refers students to appropriate university and community resources, including health services, counseling, financial resources, career services, rehabilitation agencies, transportation resources, and other support services as appropriate.
• Assists students in navigating concerns or barriers related to the implementation of approved accommodations.
• Facilitates resolution of accommodation concerns through communication, consultation, problem-solving, and the interactive process.
• Assists students with understanding disability-related rights and responsibilities as they transition from university to employment, including workplace accommodation processes and disability-related employment resources.

Consultation, Advocacy, and Campus Collaboration

• Advises students, faculty, staff, and university administrators regarding disability access, reasonable accommodations, and applicable laws and university policies.
• Serves as a resource to faculty and departments regarding effective implementation of accommodations and inclusive practices.
• Advocates for equitable access while maintaining appropriate consideration of academic standards, essential functions, and institutional requirements.
• Consults with university offices regarding accessibility concerns and potential barriers affecting students with disabilities.
• Participates in case consultation and team meetings involving complex accommodation situations.
• Collaborates with appropriate campus partners, including academic departments, housing, facilities, transportation, student health, testing services, and other offices as needed.
• Helps develop and implement programs, procedures, and initiatives designed to improve accessibility and the student experience for individuals with disabilities.
• Provides education and training to faculty, staff, and students regarding disability access and accommodation processes as assigned.

UAC Team and University Responsibilities

• Participates in regular UAC staff meetings, case consultations, trainings, and departmental activities.
• Serves on university, division, and department committees and working groups as assigned.
• Participates in university-wide initiatives related to accessibility, student success, inclusion, emergency preparedness, and campus access.
• Assists with assessment, data collection, program evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives within the UAC.
• Assists with development and review of UAC policies, procedures, resources, and educational materials.
• Supports other UAC programs and services as assigned by UAC leadership.

Professional Development and Administrative Responsibilities

• Meets regularly with the supervisor to discuss caseloads, complex cases, work priorities, outcomes, and professional development.
• Participates in professional development activities, conferences, workshops, seminars, and training relevant to disability services and higher education.
• Maintains current knowledge of federal and state disability laws, regulations, guidance, professional standards, and emerging practices in postsecondary disability services.
• Engages in ongoing professional study related to disabilities, accessibility, assistive technology, accommodations, universal design, and higher education.
• Completes required administrative responsibilities, documentation, reporting, and other assignments in a timely manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the UAC Director.

What qualifies you for this role

Minimum education/experience required:

• Master’s degree in psychology, education, social work, or a related field and at least one year of experience working in an advisement or counseling setting.

Preferred education/experience required:

• Doctorate degree in clinical, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, or school psychology with documented coursework focusing on the assessment and accommodation of postsecondary students with disabilities. At least two years of experience working in an advisement or counseling setting, preferably in disability services or a related student support services office.
• Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, special education, disability studies, counseling, psychology, education, or a closely related field.
• Two or more years of professional experience in a postsecondary disability services office, rehabilitation setting, or related student support environment.
• Experience working directly with college students with physical disabilities, mobility impairments, chronic health conditions, or other health-related disabilities.
• Experience reviewing disability documentation and determining reasonable accommodations in a postsecondary environment.
• Experience engaging in an interactive process with students, faculty, healthcare providers, and university administrators.
• Experience interpreting and applying Section 504, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and related disability access requirements.
• Experience with assistive technology, accessible technology, adaptive equipment, or physical accessibility.
• Experience coordinating accommodations across multiple university environments, including classrooms, testing, housing, clinical or experiential learning, and campus facilities.

• Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred

• Knowledge of physical disabilities, mobility impairments, chronic health conditions, neurological conditions, and other conditions that may affect a student's physical functioning or access to the university environment.
• Knowledge of the functional impact of physical disabilities in higher education settings.
• Experience reviewing documentation from physicians, psychologists, rehabilitation professionals, therapists, and other qualified healthcare providers.
• Knowledge of accessible technology, adaptive equipment, mobility devices, and other assistive technologies.
• Knowledge of architectural and physical accessibility principles and their application in a university environment.
• Knowledge of accessible transportation, housing, classroom environments, laboratories, clinical settings, and experiential learning environments.
• Familiarity with the principles of universal design and universal design for learning.
• Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation and community agencies serving individuals with disabilities.
• Experience providing disability-related training and consultation to faculty and staff.
• Experience working with students during the transition from secondary education to postsecondary education and from university to employment.
• Professional experience in a university accessibility/disability resource office.
• Professional certification in rehabilitation counseling, disability management, accessibility, or a related field.
• Experience using case management or disability services software.
• Knowledge of current federal regulations, legal guidance, and professional standards related to postsecondary disability services.

Pay Grade: 55

Typical Starting Pay: $92,000-$119,000

The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
