Medical Scribe Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and fast-paced Medical Scribe to support our surgical providers in a busy clinic setting. This role is ideal for gap year students who can commit to Monday‑Friday. The primary responsibilities include real‑time documentation and narrative typing during clinic visits, requiring strong multitasking skills, accuracy, and a typing speed of at least 65 WPM (higher preferred). Clinic hours typically run from 8 am to 5 pm, with flexibility based on volume and documentation needs. The scribe is an unlicensed, non‑clinical individual who does not perform patient examinations or care; the role is limited to documentation and efficiency management for the practitioner. Must be able to travel to satellite offices (except Yuma). Position Duties Assist the practitioner in navigating the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and locate information as requested (e.g., previous notes, reports, test results). Join the practitioner during patient interviews and examinations while refraining from providing personal observations. Document the practitioner’s dictated patient history, including history of present illness, review of systems, past medical and surgical history, family and social histories, medications, and allergies. Record physical examination findings and procedures performed by the practitioner. Transcribe laboratory and radiographic study results as dictated. Document the correct time of patient‑care activities, including practitioner‑to‑practitioner communication, family communication, and re‑examination of the patient. Ensure the practitioner reviews all completed documentation and signs the chart, while the practitioner remains ultimately responsible. Perform “chart rounds” with the practitioner to review patient status, delays, and any other care‑related issues. Ensure authentication occurs before the practitioner and scribe leave the patient care area, and that all orders for patient care are communicated by the practitioner. Carry out miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested. Position Qualifications Education High school diploma or equivalent (required). Completion of college‑level courses or current enrollment as a healthcare student in mid‑level provider, nursing, healthcare administration, etc. (preferred). Experience Minimum of 2 years medical experience in a hospital setting or private practice (required). Experience and understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments to accurately transcribe dictated reports (preferred). Previous experience translating medical abbreviations into their expanded forms (required). Experience in a surgical specialty (required). Special Skills Ability to multitask and communicate professionally, including writing routine reports and correspondence; typing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and oral communication proficiency. Good judgment, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail, discretion, tact, and modesty in duties. Fluency in using all functions of electronic medical record and transcription software. Punctuality and preparedness for all shifts and work‑related activities. Ability to respond to all correspondence promptly and demonstrate excellent penmanship.
