Plumber

Job Description:

Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing, heating (hot water and steam) systems for on campus buildings and facilities. Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with Norwich University and departmental policies and procedures.

Schedule is 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday with rotating on call for weekends.

Essential Functions

1. Performs maintenance and repairs of various facilities as indicated on daily work orders.
2. Installs and renovates plumbing and HVAC systems.
3. Troubleshoots issues as well as components in the field to maintain building systems integrity.
4. Pulls permits when required.
5. Orders materials needed to complete jobs from stock area.
6. Lays out and installs plumbing in compliance with plumbing codes.
7. Assists with installation, maintenance and repair of refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning systems and propane fueled equipment.
8. Maintains fire suppression equipment.
9. Maintains records of time, materials, etc. involved with each job.
10. Performs all duties in a safe manner.
11. Assists with snow removal, event set up and clean up, loading and unloading trucks, and grounds maintenance.

2. Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
3. Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
4. Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
5. Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
6. Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
7. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3 years of building maintenance experience required. Background in building controls including lighting, HVAC, refrigeration, and domestic hot water controls; and mechanical background preferred.
• Journeyman level plumbing license in Vermont required. Master level plumbing license in Vermont preferred. License must be kept up to date.
• Valid driver's license.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook) preferred.
• Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 25 pounds frequently and 75 pounds occasionally; push or pull up to 100 pounds; travel outdoors on foot to various parts of the campus; walk one mile within 20 minutes; climb stairs carrying prescribed equipment; pass a pre-employment physical.
• Work some evening or weekend hours.

• Indoor and outdoor work.
• High level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
