Implement habilitation and rehabilitation, behavior management, crisis intervention, and treatment programs with individuals. Teach life skills such as feeding, dressing, and personal hygiene. Participate in development of individual's treatment plan. Observe individuals for signs and symptoms of disease or injury, record observations. Report significant changes in physical condition or behavior and document information. Assist in transporting individuals for scheduled activities and emergency situations. Administer first aid as appropriate. Attend to healthcare needs under supervision. Evacuate individuals during emergencies. Prevent or manage aggressive behavior and administer CPR if needed. Perform direct care and support services. Provide training/mentorship to new DSP I and/or serve as shift/team lead. Participate in disaster response and/or recovery or COOP activation, possibly requiring alternate shift patterns or locations. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent, or prior work experience. Minimum of 6 months work experience (preferred). Experience in writing reports, working in behavior programs, and with persons with intellectual developmental disabilities (preferred). Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days; out‑of‑state license must provide certified driving record. Certification in CPR, First Aid, Ukeru, and/or Safe Use of Restraint (SUR) preferred. Knowledgeable in individual care techniques, treatment, therapy, and developmental programs. Ability to speak and read English. Good judgment and decision‑making in critical incidents. Calm and quick reaction in emergencies. Proper body mechanics, posture, and lifting techniques. Effective communication and ability to train/mentor/coach others. Team player, able to work effectively with others. Legal eligibility: Must be at least 18 years old. Additional Requirements Must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Males between ages 18–25 must register with the Selective Service. All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to random drug testing. Flexibility in work hours may be required, including overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays. Position may require a state‑owned vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
