Sign-on bonus available, up to $50K. Position At our Vetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospitals, the veterinarian position is the most immersive role in the hospital. Veterinarians lead teams with a focus on high-quality patient care and collaboration with a paraprofessional team. This description covers duties at Vetco Total Care hospitals and related requirements. Essential Job Functions Listed are the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. The incumbent must be able to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodation: Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care according to patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment. Develop a problem-based approach with a complete problem list, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plan, and appropriate treatments based on diagnostic results. Document patient observations, exam findings, diagnostics, treatments, medications, client interactions, and diagnoses in the medical record concisely and in detail. Perform routine and complex surgical procedures including spays/neuters, abdominal exploratories, and mass removals. Perform routine and complex dental procedures including full dental examinations, evaluation of radiographs, and extractions with oral surgical procedures. Develop treatment plans for day hospitalization, transition patients to overnight care as needed, and communicate with referral hospitals to ensure continuity of care. Other Duties And Responsibilities Participate in rounds as incoming or exiting doctor at the beginning and end of shifts. Disseminate knowledge to improve the level of care and communication among staff and clients. Performs additional duties as assigned. Nature Of Supervision In all activities related to the care of individual patients, the Veterinarian will take direct supervision from the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director. The Veterinarian should uphold Petco Veterinary SOPs and accept guidance from leadership to elevate patient care. All hospital veterinarians should work together collegially and maintain professional, personable conduct. Planning And Problem Solving Problem solving is central to veterinary medicine. Candidates should possess excellent problem-solving skills for expeditious diagnosis of patient problems. Supervisory Responsibility This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities; the veterinarian acts as a de facto leader in the hospital. Education/Experience Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school. Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state in which the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date. Current DEA license. Current Controlled Substance License, if applicable, in the state in which the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date. USDA Category I (minimum) Accreditation or completion within two months of hire date. Comfort with anesthesia and routine surgeries including canine and feline spays, neuters, mass removals, and dentals. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Compassionate and professional demeanor, able to handle emotional and stressful situations. Proficient with telephone and computer skills. Team player willing to learn, share ideas, and adapt to change. Work Environment Most duties are conducted in a Vetco Total Care veterinary full-service hospital. Physical requirements include bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. A significant amount of time is spent in direct contact with clients and their pets.
