Pharmacy Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Overview

As a Correctional Pharmacy Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) you will work alongside correctional staff and other medical professionals to provide quality care to the individuals in residence ensuring all nursing care is performed in compliance to standards and adherence to regulations. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.

Responsibilities

The Pharmacy Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) assists with medication management patient care and pharmacy operations under the supervision of a pharmacist or other licensed healthcare professional. Duties and responsibilities may include and are not limited to:

• Receiving written prescription or refill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate
• Assisting with the preparation and dispensing of medications including verifying prescriptions and administering medications as prescribed
• Maintaining accurate records of medication stock monitoring expiration dates and assisting with ordering and receiving medications
• Gathering medication histories clarifying medication orders with patients and healthcare providers and providing patient education on medication usage and potential side effects
• Maintaining proper storage and security conditions for all medications
• Filling prescribed medications and affixing labels as necessary (Remove for Wyoming Positions)
• Cleaning and maintaining all equipment and work areas including sterilization as required
• Stocking medication carts

Qualifications

Experience / Requirements / Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited LPN program and valid LPN license within the State
• Current Pharmacy Technician certificate/license in State

• Must possess an active BLS/CPR Certification (AHA preferred)

• Strong knowledge of pharmacology medication administration and pharmacy operations
• Attention to detail strong communication and interpersonal skills ability to work independently and as part of a team and a commitment to patient safety
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
• Integrity professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies procedures and legal requirements
• Must pass the facilitys criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Capabilities:

Must have the ability to stand for long periods lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds) bend squat reach push pull walk significant distances and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
