Assistant Controller
We seeking a highly capable, hands-on Assistant Controller to own the day-to-day accounting function across a growing, multi-entity and multi-location organization. This is a leadership role for an experienced accounting professional who can independently drive the close, maintain strong financial controls, lead and develop the accounting team, and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting across U.S. and Canadian operations. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with strong technical accounting judgment and the ability to move comfortably between detailed accounting issues and team leadership. This person will serve as the primary owner of the accounting function, work across multiple ERP environments, improve processes and controls, and partner with Finance and operational leaders as the business continues to scale. - Financial Close & Reporting: Manage the full end-to-end month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close cycles. Oversee journal entries, account reconciliations, general ledger integrity, and accurate GAAP-compliant consolidated financial reporting for U.S. and Canadian entities.
- Team Leadership & Development: Supervise, train, and mentor accounting staff. Set clear performance standards, conduct technical reviews for complex transactions, and cultivate an accountable, high-performing team.
- Core Accounting & Technical Oversight: Direct accounting operations across key areas such as revenue recognition, inventory, project accounting, fixed assets, leases, and intercompany transactions.
- Tax & Compliance: Oversee multi-state and multi-province sales/use tax compliance (including Avalara administration and nexus management), internal controls, and audit readiness. Act as the primary contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
- Process Improvement & System Optimization: Lead initiatives to automate financial systems (ERP, AP, AR) and streamline processes. Address root causes of accounting inefficiencies to build scalable, manual-workaround-free operations.
- Strategic Partnership & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams (Operations, IT, Sales) to improve financial data quality. Support strategic initiatives such as M&A integration, system migrations, and chart-of-accounts alignment while supplying accurate actuals for FP&A decision-making.
