The patient is ventilator-dependent via a tracheotomy and receives all nutrition and medications through a GJ tube. He uses an eye-gaze communication device and a wheelchair for mobility. Due to severe osteoporosis and joint contractures, all care must be provided with an exceptionally gentle, attentive, and safety-focused approach.Job Responsibilities:Monitoring ventilator function and pulse oximeter readings throughout the shiftPerforming tracheostomy suctioning as neededProviding routine tracheostomy care and cleaningAdministering GJ tube feedings and medications as prescribedOperating cough assist equipment to help manage respiratory secretionsAdministering respiratory treatments, including nebulizers and inhalersAssisting with hygiene routines, including showering, as applicable to the assigned shiftProviding repositioning and incontinence care as neededMonitoring the patient's condition and responding appropriately to changesMaintaining the patient's comfort, dignity, and safety throughout the shiftCommunicating respectfully and effectively using the patient's assistive communication technologyQualifications:At least one year of pediatric nursing experienceActive Registered Nurse (RN in South Dakota, as applicable to the position)Required experience with tracheostomy and ventilator careFamiliarity with GJ tube feedings and medication administrationExperience with pediatric respiratory care, including nebulizers and cough assist equipmentAbility to provide gentle, attentive care to a patient with complex medical and physical needsAbility to communicate effectively and respectfully with a non-speaking individual using assistive technologyCurrent CPR certification required; on-site CPR certification is available for qualified candidatesEqual Employment Opportunity:We are an equal opportunity employer and prohibit discrimination/harassment without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
