Process Engineer (Chemical Engineer)

Job TitleDevelops and optimizes continuous production and manufacturing processes to achieve the output, quality, and cost goals of the organization. Collects production data and applies standard scientific and statistical methods to analyze, document, and diagram production processes. Identifies process bottlenecks and devises solutions to resolve. Recommends changes or upgrades to equipment, work methods, or other aspects of the process to improve efficiency and utilization of resources including labor, energy and raw materials.Key Areas of ResponsibilityAchieve proficiency with key manufacturing unit operations via training with operators and engineers.Manage initiatives under the guidance of the Operations Manager.Troubleshoot plant process issues working directly with technicians/operators.Develops process and procedure documentation and operator training materials.Help develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives.Ensure communication and deployment of management of change procedures.Support new product and process commercialization.Measure product quality, process capability, and yield utilizing statistical process control techniques.Improve process efficiencies including first pass quality, productivity, and safety.Provide plant support by coordinating and following new products with R&D from inception through product commercialization and full production handoff to operations.Investigate downtime causes and complete appropriate recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.Maintain and foster collaborative efforts between R&D, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Quality teams to identify, establish, and share best practices.Work closely with Engineering to ensure appropriate safety, health and environmental factors are considered and adhered to throughout all aspects of the product development to commercialization process.Perform other duties as requested or required.QualificationsFour-year college degree in Chemical Engineering3+ years' experience preferred in manufacturing or chemical processing related industryAbility to be reached by phone during off shift hours in case of scheduling or emergency need.Must understand heat transfer, fluid flow, pumping, piping, and instrumentation.Demonstrated exceptional oral and written communication skills.Demonstrated excellent computer skills.Preferred QualificationsAble to obtain TWIC certification.Read P&ID's and schematics.Having previous experience with continuous chemical processing; within a high hazard environment is preferred.Hands on with the ability to build rapport with operating, analytical, and maintenance technicians is extremely important.Ability to handle multiple projects at one time.GMP knowledge preferredPrograming experience preferredCompetenciesActive Listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions.Championing Continuous Improvement and Executing for ResultsTeamwork and Collaboration – Ability to work with others through collaboration of people to achieve business outcome.Continuous Learning – Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision making.In-Depth Problem Solving and Analysis –The aptitude to assess a situation and create appropriate possible solutionsCoaching and Developing Others – Inspires others, leads, mentors, provides direction and a positive role model. Some towers are over 100 feet tall.
