Job Description The department of Human Performance at Minnesota State University, Mankato invites applications for a probationary, Assistant Professor beginning August 16, 2027. This position requires teaching and advising to support the undergraduate and graduate programs in sport management. This position requires active engagement in scholarship, advising of master's thesis, continuing preparation, service to the University, community and discipline.

Job Duties

A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty-four (24) credits of instruction per academic year. The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified. May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university’s additional locations, as assigned. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities. This successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in sport management. All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the

IFO Master Agreement ). This position will advise undergraduate and graduate sport management students This position will contribute to student success and completion, enhance equity in an inclusive environment, expand global impact, incorporate experiential learning into coursework, and collaborate with sport organizations.

Minimum Qualifications Doctorate or terminal degree in Kinesiology, Human Performance, Business, Education or Educational Leadership with a specialization in Sport Management, Sport Administration, or a related area. Evidence of degree completion by the end of the first semester of employment. Experience in teaching university-level theory classes in sport management or a related teaching background Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from a wide range of diverse backgrounds and to foster a professional environment that is inclusive, respectful, and equitable for all.

Preferred Qualification Demonstrated experience fostering an inclusive, equitable, and respectful environment while working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated preparation to teach, advise and support a wide variety of students Demonstrated experience developing partnerships and collaborating with sport organizations to facilitate experiential learning, research opportunities and internships Demonstrated the ability to teach the courses below, along with additional courses depending on the department’s needs: Sport Finance & Revenue Generation, Financial Aspects of Sport, Analysis of Sport Data, Legal Aspects of Physical Education & Sport, Sport Tourism, and/or Sport Public Relations & Communication Willingness to lead study abroad opportunities and incorporate global issues into coursework Experience incorporating active and experiential learning into coursework Demonstrated ability to initiate and sustain an active research agenda Demonstrated commitment to work individually and collaboratively as a member of a team in a collegial and cooperative manner.
