Litigation Attorney

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is looking for highly qualified attorneys with at least one-year of litigation experience to join our Litigation team. This is an opportunity to join the Legal Division’s Litigation team representing the CFPB in defensive and appellate litigation and providing related legal advice and counseling. We are recruiting experienced attorneys at all grade-levels (CN-51-53). If you join our team, you will: Represent the Bureau in all defensive and appellate litigation, including statutory and constitutional challenges to the Bureau’s rulemaking, supervisory, enforcement, and operational activities. Represent the CFPB in all phases of litigation in trial and appellate fora, including drafting and responding to motions, pleadings and other legal filings, handling all aspects of discovery, negotiating settlements, drafting and filing amicus briefs, and presenting oral arguments in court. Counsel clients, including CFPB leadership and senior CFPB staff on compliance, litigation risk, and other issues. Collaborate with federal partners, such as the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission, among others. Review records of suits by or against the CFPB in which the decision was unfavorable to CFPB to determine whether to recommend appeal to a higher court. Research and draft final appellate determinations of administrative FOIA appeals. Facilitate Bureau consideration of and responses to subpoenas seeking confidential Bureau materials.
