RN - Correctional Health Profession: RN Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Primary shift could be days or nights depending on facility needs Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of one year of professional nursing experience preferred License: Current licensure in the state of employment required Certifications: Valid driver's license required Must-Have: Medication administration Patient assessment Supervisory techniques Emergency procedures Nursing care Description:The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care, including executing provider orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting in examinations and treatment of patients.Applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care and treatment of individuals.Performs all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of education and licensure.Attends sick calls with the physician to see patients and prepares a list for examination.Prepares examining room and equipment.Operates pill call, dispenses medication, and documents as required by applicable policies and procedures.Contacts providers for medication and treatment orders as needed.Examines and assesses new patients with illnesses or injuries, referring them to the emergency room or other appropriate healthcare facilities as required by their condition.Performs emergency procedures as needed and notifies the provider for treatment orders.Assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel and addresses their needs.Monitors inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate.Provides guidance and supervision to nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.Maintains a good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, and outside provider agencies.Utilizes established policies and procedures in decision-making while using sound independent judgment.Regularly evaluates medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of those services.Maintains absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.Assists with the review of medical files to ensure all provided services are documented.Closely monitors all potential catastrophic illnesses.Audits pharmacy use for adherence to formulary as directed or required.Complies with all pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.Observes and records patient behavior.Inspects the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband and takes appropriate action to securely store or dispose of supplies.Provides health counseling and education on an individual or group basis as required.Assists in preparing and maintaining reports, logs, and documentation in a timely manner.Reads, analyzes, and comprehends medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, and legal documents.Reviews and responds to lawsuits and attends court hearings when necessary.Facilitates accreditation of the medical program by providing efficient and appropriate medical services.Prepares safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures and takes action in case of serious incidents and emergencies. #J-18808-Ljbffr
