Job Description

This role provides hands-on maintenance support for a large bakery production facility on the 2nd shift (1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.). You will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production, utility, and facility equipment to keep operations running safely and efficiently. The position requires working six days per week and supporting both planned and unplanned maintenance activities in a high-volume food manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform maintenance tasks in a safe, efficient, and organized manner.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair general production equipment, utilities, and facility systems to minimize downtime.
• Properly lubricate equipment, bearings, and gearboxes according to maintenance schedules and best practices.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns or malfunctions and restore operations as quickly as possible.
• Inspect belts, rollers, gears, sprockets, chains, and related components for wear and replace or repair them before failure occurs.
• Rebuild pumps, valves, gearboxes, and other general equipment as needed.
• Perform pipe fitting and welding on various metals and materials to support equipment installation and repair.
• Perform facility maintenance and repairs, including plumbing, doors, walls, floors, roof, ceiling, and other general building components.
• Maintain equipment parts, tools, and oil/grease barrels in a clean, orderly manner and ensure they remain in their designated locations.
• Support the training and onboarding of new mechanic employees by sharing knowledge and safe work practices.
• Install new equipment and systems as required, ensuring proper alignment, setup, and functionality.
• Repair and fabricate guards, guides, rails, and similar components to improve equipment safety and performance.
• Provide maintenance support to other departments and areas of the plant when needed.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and correct mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and minor electrical issues on process and facility equipment.
• Use manufacturer manuals, drawings, and specifications to keep machinery in proper working condition.
• Work closely with the inventory function to ensure critical and spare parts are available and properly documented.
• Document all parts removed from the stockroom to maintain accurate inventory records and support cycle counts.
• Follow the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program, completing tasks on schedule and accurately documenting work performed.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience as a maintenance mechanic or maintenance technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry or a bakery.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to maintain and repair conveyors, production machinery, and related equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and small electrical issues on process and facility equipment.
• Knowledge of the relationship between equipment and process conveying systems in a production environment.
• Proficiency using standard machine shop and hand tools, including drills, saws, taps, dies, drill presses, hydraulic presses, horizontal saws, vertical saws, and bench tools.
• Ability to read and work from schematics, manuals, and equipment specifications.
• Experience working with conveyor belts and high-speed packaging or bakery equipment.
• Basic knowledge of analog and digital instrumentation and control systems, including PLCs.
• Ability to follow and support a structured Preventative Maintenance program and associated documentation.
• Willingness and ability to work 2nd shift (1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.) and a six-day workweek.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in the food industry or commercial baking environment, including familiarity with commercial baking ovens.
• Exposure to electrical maintenance or electrical troubleshooting (electrical skills are considered a plus).
• Experience with PLC-based systems and high-speed packaging equipment.
• Basic computer skills, including use of Outlook, Excel, Word, and Preventative Maintenance databases or software.
• Ability to operate a scissor lift, boom lift, and powered industrial vehicles (PIT).
• Capability to perform welding and pipe fitting on various metals and materials.
• Comfort working with inventory systems and documenting parts usage accurately.

Work Environment

The position is based in a large bakery plant equipped with ovens, mixers, conveyor belts, and high-speed production lines that produce items such as cookies. Temperatures in the facility typically range from approximately 60&degree;F to 85&degree;F, depending on the area of the plant and proximity to ovens and other heat sources. The environment includes continuous production activity, moving conveyor systems, and the pleasant but sometimes intense aromas associated with baking. You will work on-site during 2nd shift hours (1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.) and are expected to work six days per week, either Sunday through Friday or Monday through Saturday. The role involves working around industrial equipment, operating lifts and powered industrial vehicles, and adhering to safety protocols and appropriate attire suitable for a food manufacturing and maintenance setting.

The pay range for this position is $72800.00 - $93600.00/yr.
