Duties and Responsibilities

This internship announcement is valid for one (1) candidate who will intern in the Dag Hammarskjold Library. The Library is part of the Outreach Division, Department of Global Communications in New York City, which engages and educates people and their communities worldwide to encourage support for the ideals and activities of the United Nations. The Dag Hammarskjöld Library connects Member State delegations, UN staff, researchers and world citizens with trusted information/data, facts and human knowledge about and for the UN. It provides a foundation for facilitation, dissemination, use, access to, engagement with, and preservation of information and knowledge in support for the work, principles and mission of the United Nations. This internship is designed to be full-time and in-person in New York but could be adjusted based on the request of the successful candidate, the nature of the tasks, needs of the Section, and the discretion of the manager. Full-time interns work five days a week (35 hours) and part-time interns work less than 34 hours a week. Under the supervision of the Project Manager of the Office of the Chief Librarian, intern responsibilities may include: - Assisting with data analysis, data visualization, data cleaning, and presentation of the data for distribution, with a focus on the Section's Key Performance Indicators and the analysis of global consultations and surveys - Assisting with liaising with other members of the Section to ensure data points are clearly understood and communicated. - Assisting with performing other duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must have good knowledge of software applications used in data and statistical analysis and data visualisation; familiarity with generative AI tools is an asset.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship.

If already in the United States of America on another non-immigrant visa status other than G-4, interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization, allowing them to undertake the internship.
