Class 1, Step C - Class 6, Step C ($6,933.44- $8,849.03) per month based on the current AFT - College Faculty Tenured-Tenure Track Faculty Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable.
The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 - Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor. CalWORKs/ISSP Counselor:


Under the direction of the Dean of Student Support Programs, the CalWORKs/ISSP Counselor is responsible for offering strategic direction in improving access, retention, and completion of students receiving public assistance and immigrant-based student populations. The Counselor leads both programs in coordinating and implementing strategies to increase student success through academic counseling, work-study coordination, case management, and individualized support services. The Counselor serves as a liaison, advocate, and educator concerning the unique needs, experiences, and challenges faced by student parents balancing educational pursuits with parenting responsibilities and welfare-to-work requirements, as well as binational students, global students (English Learners), undocumented students (Dreamers), immigrant professionals, and LGBTQIA+ students.


CalWORKs Program Responsibilities:


The Counselor faculty participates in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the CalWORKs program, which provides comprehensive support services to help participants achieve self-sufficiency through education and career training. This includes coordinating with county welfare departments to ensure compliance with welfare-to-work requirements while prioritizing education as a pathway to economic independence. The Counselor develops Individual Training Plans (ITPs), coordinates work-study placements, facilitates student success workshops, and connects students with supportive services including transportation, textbooks, and exam fees.


ISSP (Immigration Student Success Program) Responsibilities:

The Counselor oversees the ISSP Resource Center at the Cesar Chavez Campus, providing immediate student assistance and serving as a central hub for student engagement. The Counselor manages community-building activities including ISSP WhatsApp Groups (separate for English and Spanish speakers), weekly ISSP Student Zoom Forums addressing educational paradigms and cultural adaptation, and ISSP field trips to college and university campuses. The Counselor facilitates the ISSP Pipeline to Promise program to promote transfer opportunities for immigrant-based students, assists students in navigating the U.S. educational system, and advocates for students with credit college admissions and financial aid departments regarding California residency qualification, visa status policies, and scholarship program enhancements.

The CalWORKs/ISSP Counselor position is responsible for providing specialized academic and career counseling, coordinating community events and resource sharing, facilitating cultural adaptation support, and connecting diverse student populations with comprehensive resources to help them achieve educational success and sustainable employment, ultimately supporting their transition from public assistance to self-sufficiency and successful integration into the U.S. educational system.

Major Responsibilities

• Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience in providing CalWORKs/ISSP participants and immigrant-based student populations with personal, academic, and career counseling in a post-secondary educational setting.
• Ability to facilitate individual and group sessions. Evidence of experience and academic preparation in conducting assessment, advisement, and student orientation.
• Provide guidance and leadership to SDCCD as it relates to improving experiences of CalWORKs participants and immigrant-based students, leading to increased retention and completion.
• Develop, recommend, and implement student support services to enhance student retention and success for CalWORKs/ISSP students.
• Give presentations on CalWORKs/ISSP student data and current research to a variety of stakeholders (e.g., students, faculty/staff, trustees, county welfare departments, external partners, etc.).
• Provide training on CalWORKs welfare-to-work requirements, immigrant student resources, and cultural adaptation topics to SDCCD constituencies at varied levels (e.g., faculty, professional classified, counselors, etc.).
• Develop Individual Training Plans (ITPs) for CalWORKs and ISSP participants and coordinate work-study placements to ensure compliance with welfare-to-work requirements.
• Manage the ISSP Resource Center at Cesar Chavez Campus, including community-building activities and immigration referral services.
• Assist in identifying future goals and strategies to enhance student equity and achievement for CalWORKs participants and immigrant-based students and integrate with other institutional planning.
• Work collaboratively with Counseling, county welfare departments, and community partners to identify gaps in services and develop appropriate strategies to address these gaps and collect data to show progress.
• Develop equity-focused events on campus that engage the College community and address CalWORKs participants, immigrant students, and other dISSProportionately impacted student groups.
• Connect students with comprehensive support services including transportation assistance, textbooks, exam fees, childcare resources, and transfer opportunities.
• Provide specialized support to ISSP sub-groups including undocumented students (Dreamers), immigrant professionals, LGBTQIA+ students, and English Learners.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling,
• OR the equivalent
• (NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

SELECTED CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT:
