Extended Day Assistant Teacher at Bon Air Baptist Weekday School 

2026–2027 School Year 

Job Title: Assistant Teacher 

Hours: 17-20hrs a week, Approximate schedule: 11:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., additional times and schedules may be available 

Pay Range: $15.50 - $17.50 

Immediate Supervisor: Operations Director / Managing Director 
Location: Onsite – Bon Air Baptist Church, 2351 Buford Road, Richmond, VA 

Position Summary & Principal Functions 

Bon Air Baptist Weekday School is seeking a caring, dependable, and team-oriented Assistant Teacher to support the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and Christ-centered classroom environment. The Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in daily classroom operations by assisting with the implementation of classroom activities, maintaining a positive and developmentally appropriate learning environment, and supporting the daily care, supervision, and well-being of students. 

Primary Responsibilities 

• Assist with extended day program activities, projects, and routines 
• Provide support in classrooms for teacher breaks. 
• Support classroom management and actively engage with children 
• Assist with setup, cleanup, and classroom organization and environment 

Student Care & Safety 

• Always Maintain open visibility with other staff; never be alone with a child in a closed space and follow all diapering, toileting, and bathroom supervision procedures 
• Report and document all injuries, incidents, or safety concerns immediately to the Lead teacher or Director 
• Serve as a mandated reporter under Virginia law 

Team Collaboration 

• Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to support classroom goals 
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with co-workers, administration, and parents 
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and required events 

Administrative & Professional Responsibilities 

• Complete 10 hours of required annual training 
• Submit required documentation, including background checks and health reports 
• Adhere to all policies in the Teacher Handbook, Parent Handbook, and employment agreements and confidentiality agreement 
• Model Christian values in conduct, speech, and interactions 

Compensation & Employment Terms 

• Paid rate and calculations are outlined in the General Contract for the 2026–2027 school year and include built‐in holidays, scheduled school closures and trainings 
• Receive 20 equal bi‐monthly paychecks (September–June) 
• Additional compensation or deductions may apply for training, substituting, or additional leave and leave days, training bonuses, and payroll details are governed by the Teacher Handbook 

Qualifications 

• Experience working with children with training or education courses in Child Development or related fields preferred 
• Reliable, flexible, and able to follow direction 
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills 
• Commitment to child safety and program policies 
• Completion of all required employment documentation and background checks
