Structural Engineer, Cold Formed Steel DesignLocation:Charlottesville, VACompensation:$90,000 to $130,000 per yearThis role leads structural engineering design and project management for cold formed, light gauge steel projects, managing work from initial design through project completion. The position combines hands on technical design work with project leadership, team mentoring, and client relationship management, offering the opportunity to oversee multiple projects simultaneously while developing a team of junior structural professionals.ScheduleFull time, on site in Charlottesville, VA.Compensation$90,000 to $130,000 per year.What You'll DoThis role performs engineering analyses, calculations, and complete structural project designs, preparing and interpreting drawings, layouts, and custom or standard details, and redlining and laying out full drawing sets for complex projects. The position conducts field surveys, prepares field reports, and ensures compliance with engineering standards, policies, and best practices, while responding to reviewer comments and coordinating with other disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.On the project management side, this person oversees multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they remain on schedule and within budget, leading kickoff meetings, monitoring project progress, evaluating financial performance, and managing monthly billings and collections. The role reviews contracts, scopes of work, and proposed changes, enforces project methodologies and quality control procedures, and supports proposal development, bidding, additional service requests, and construction document production, coordinating internal schedules with client expectations.This position also supervises, mentors, and coordinates a team of junior structural professionals, assigning work, managing production, and performing quality control reviews to ensure adherence to engineering standards and project delivery processes. Supervisory duties include conducting annual performance evaluations, participating in hiring decisions, maintaining project schedules and workload planning, and monitoring financial performance to ensure departmental profitability. The role also develops and maintains long term client relationships, negotiates fees, initiates additional services, and serves as the primary client contact to ensure successful project delivery.Required QualificationsActive U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) licenseBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university8 or more years of structural engineering design experience, including at least 5 years focused on cold formed, light gauge steel4 or more years of project management experiencePreferred QualificationsPrior experience supervising or mentoring junior structural engineersExperience managing client relationships and supporting business development effortsExperience with proposal development, bidding, and construction document productionCompensation and Benefits$90,000 to $130,000 per yearMedical, dental, and vision coverage 401k and PTO To apply, submit your resume for consideration.
