Estimator - Civil Construction

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to support civil construction projects involving site development, earthwork, utility installation, and infrastructure improvements. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, construction estimating expertise, and a thorough understanding of civil/sitework operations. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, analyzing bid documents, and collaborating with vendors, subcontractors, and project teams to develop competitive proposals.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive civil construction takeoffs from plans, specifications, and bid documents.
• Analyze project requirements and systematically quantify labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Extract and evaluate data from bid documents that impact production rates, quantities, and pricing.
• Prepare detailed estimates for sitework activities including excavation, grading, earthmoving, utility installation, drainage, water, and sewer systems.
• Assess equipment requirements and utilization based on project scope and construction methods.
• Develop accurate cost projections using current market pricing, historical data, and production rates.
• Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to obtain pricing and scope information.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and industry partners.
• Support bid preparation, proposal development, and project handoff activities.
• Manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
• Assist with preconstruction planning and estimating-related functions as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of estimating experience within the civil construction, site development, or utility construction industry.
• Project management experience may be considered in lieu of direct estimating experience.
• Experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs for water, sewer, drainage, and site utility projects.
• Strong understanding of earthwork, grading, excavation, utility installation, and heavy civil construction practices.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment capabilities, productivity rates, and construction methodologies.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work effectively under tight deadlines.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Project.
• Experience with estimating and takeoff software such as Carlson Takeoff, Heavy Bid, AutoCAD, or similar platforms.
• Strong mathematical and quantity analysis skills.
