Service Manager Requirements

• 5+ years of leadership experience in a repair shop, fleet maintenance, heavy equipment, or similar mechanical environment
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and assist technicians when needed
• Experience leading, coaching, and developing technicians and support staff
• Excellent customer communication skills, especially over the phone
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines and customer expectations
• Experience managing or coordinating parts inventory is highly preferred
• Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with shop management systems and basic computer applications
• Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and ethical leadership

Service Manager Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of service technicians and parts personnel to achieve operational excellence
• Coordinate repairs, rebuilds, and refurbishments of forklifts, aerial lifts, heavy equipment, railcar movers, and other industrial machinery
• Manage workflow to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget
• Monitor work in process (WIP) and proactively resolve bottlenecks
• Ensure parts availability by coordinating inventory and ordering requirements
• Communicate weekly repair updates with customers and maintain exceptional customer relationships
• Promote and enforce a strong culture of safety, quality, and accountability
• Coach technicians, assist with troubleshooting, and remove obstacles that impact productivity
• Track key performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability
• Partner with leadership to drive operational improvements and deliver an outstanding customer experience
