Swine Unit Facilities Manager

Job Description The School of Animal Sciences (SAS) at Virginia Tech invitesapplications for a Swine Unit Facilities Manager to overseeoperations at the Kentland Farm swine research and teachingfacility. This position plays a critical role in integratingapplied research, undergraduate instruction, and industryengagement within a modern farrow-to-finish production system(~60-sow capacity). The successful candidate will provide leadership in animal care, unit management, student training, and research coordination, while ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal regulations governing animal use and agricultural operations. Required Qualifications B.S. in Animal Sciences or closely-related field; and/orequivalent years of training and experience Demonstrated experience in swine production systems, particularlyfarrow-to-finish operations Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills Ability to supervise and train individuals with varying levels ofexperience Expected to enroll in and complete a M.S. degree within fouryears PQA Plus certification (or willingness to obtain within twoyears) Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and work inphysically-demanding agricultural environments Preferred Qualifications M.S. in Animal Sciences or related discipline (completed or inprogress) Experience supporting research trials and data collection Familiarity with precision livestock technologies and digitalrecord systems Demonstrated ability to manage budgets or agricultural enterprisefinances Experience in teaching or mentoring students in applied animalsystems Pay Band 4 Overtime Status Exempt: Not eligible for overtime Appointment Type Regular Salary Information Commensurate with Experience Hours per week 40 Review Date 06/05/2026 Additional Information The successful candidate will be required to have a criminalconviction check.
