Job Title: Electrician Job Family: Service Workers Full-Time/Part-Time: Full time Pay Type: Hourly Department: Facilities Maintenance Job Summary To perform construction, installation, maintenance and repair ofelectrical systems, equipment and fixtures. Job Description Responsibilities Maintains all electrical systems and power supply throughoutcampus including: High-Voltage underground and overhead systems including transformers Low Standard Voltage Standard Voltage, Switchgear, Panels, Feeders and BranchCircuits Various types of electrical equipment. Generator Maintenance and Functional Testing. Performs installation and repair of wiring, electrical fixtures, and systems by: Reviewing diagrams and/or existing electrical systems. Measuring, cutting, bending, threading, assembling andinstalling electrical conduit using tools such as hacksaw, pipethreader, and conduit bender. Pulling wire through conduit with assistance. Splicing and termination of wires using standard industrymethods. Connecting wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment,using hand tools. Installing control and distribution apparatus; such asswitches, relays, and circuit breaker panels; fastening them inplace with screws or bolts, using drills, masonry chisels, hammer,anchor bolt and wrench. Connecting power cables to equipment and installing groundingleads. Testing continuity of circuits to ensure electricalcompatibility and safety of all components, using standardinstruments such as ohmmeter, meggar and oscilloscope. Observing functions of installed equipment or system to detecthazards and the need for adjustment, relocation orreplacement. Maintains the power and lights at the stadium and otheron-campus locations. Provides electrical and generator maintenance at the President'shome. Records name, completion date and time, and description of partsused on work orders. Locates and marks underground electrical conduit using locatorand drawings. Operates various equipment including trenching equipment for newinstallations of underground power and lighting. Completes job estimates and purchase order requests asrequired. Supports special events. Assists electrical sub-contractors and other trades inFacilities Services on projects. Reviews plans and blueprints for take offs, upgrades drawingsas projects are finished. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Follows safety procedures. Completes performance review process with supervisor/employeesto understand job performance expectations and how they fit intothe department and university goals. Communicates openly and recognizes contributions of co-workersand supervisor. Pursues professional development to keep pace with demands forservices and information; including maintaining up to dateinformation about the department and university. Relationships Continuous contact with members of own work unit and immediatesupervisor requiring planning, coordinating, problem solving,presenting information and suggestions related mutual goals. Parties generally have cooperative attitudes. Frequent contact with members of other departments, students,general public requiring exchange of factual information andexplanation of rules, regulation, practices or functions. Discussion of non-controversial matters. Responsibility for Final Decisions Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processesor steps. Work involves choosing the appropriate option or procedure tofollow and applying established rules and procedures. Errors are readily detected in the normal course of work bystandard check or crosscheck. Causes little difficulty or loss of time to correct. Reports To Completed work is referred to supervisor for review. Education/Skill Requirements High School graduate with 1 - 2 years experience in relatedfield. Ability to read and interpret instructions, descriptions anddiagrams in equipment/system manuals. Knowledge of National Electrical Codes. Work Conditions Work is performed both outside for stadium, lighting andoutside units and inside with constant exposure to heat, cold,electrical currents. Continuous use of gears, knobs, levers, hand tools(screwdriver, testers, pliers, etc) to repair, install and operateelectrical units. Work requires Continuous crouching, crawling to access lights. Daily climbing of stairs and ladders to reach lights,circuitry. Frequent reaching to access lighting and circuitry at adistance and overhead. Frequent lifting of 10-20 lbs. Occasional use of bucket truck to reach outside lighting. On call 24 hours a day.
