Location: Bakersfield, CA

Contract Type: Travel Contract

Shift Type: Nights, 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, every other weekend, 2 out of 3 holidays, first to float

Hours per Week: 36

Candidate Pay Rate: $80 - $81.90 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional critical care to pediatric patients in an 8-bed PICU with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio.
• Manage ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, and other respiratory support alongside a 24/7 RT team.
• Monitor telemetry and interpret your own strips using Spacelab tele monitors.
• Administer titratable and set drips including insulin, sedatives, heparin, and electrolyte replacements.
• Collaborate with in-house pediatric hospitalist intensivists, pharmacy, and respiratory therapy teams.
• Float to general peds and burn unit for non-burn pediatric care, and voluntarily to NICU.
• Document in Cerner and use Medfusion pumps with confidence.
• Support families through high-acuity, emotionally complex PICU stays.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in California or compact state
• Current BLS and PALS certifications
• Minimum 2 years of PICU experience; 3 years preferred
• No first-time travelers, please
• Experience with Cerner and Medfusion pumps
• Comfort with ventilator management, telemetry, and high-acuity pediatric patients
• Ability to float to general peds, burn unit, and voluntarily to NICU
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
