AMA Certified Medical Assistant

As a Medical Assistant, you will work closely with licensed nurses, physicians, and advanced practice providers to support clinical operations and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for patients.
General Summary
The Medical Assistant operates within their scope of practice to deliver patient care as delegated by clinical staff. This role requires strong organizational skills, professionalism, excellent customer service, attention to detail, multitasking ability, critical thinking, and adaptability in a fast-paced setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling.
- Provide direct patient interaction such as escorting patients, obtaining vital signs and EKGs, verifying medications and allergies, and documenting medical histories and visit reasons accurately and promptly.
- Manage communication by routing phone messages, answering patient questions, and assisting with physician return calls.
- Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered.
- Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Schedule appointments, diagnostic procedures, and surgeries as directed by providers.
- Complete necessary paperwork including prior authorizations and referrals in a timely manner.
- Monitor and maintain supply inventory and ensure exam areas are clean and well-stocked.
- Educate patients on electronic health record access and assist with enrollment.
- Support orientation and training of new medical assistants.
- Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, reliability, and professionalism under pressure.
Education
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is mandatory.
Experience
At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or related medical specialist is preferred but not required. Experience in a clinical setting is advantageous.
Certification and Licenses
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
Mental and Physical Requirements
This role demands considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching.
Working Conditions
Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and occasional encounters with challenging individuals may occur. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
