Overview:

The Overnight Grocery Lead is accountable for the efficient and effective execution of all operational functions within the Grocery Department in conjunction with the Assistant Center Store Manager - Overnight. This includes Grocery Proper, Refrigerated, and Frozen categories. This role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations with - and in the absence of - the Overnight Grocery Assistant Manager, ensuring that all staff members are thoroughly trained, hospitality standards and expectations are met, and company policies are upheld. The Overnight Grocery Lead supports the overnight team, ensuring seamless department operations, and maintaining high standards in merchandising, inventory management, and product quality.

Job Type: Department Lead

Hours: Tues-Sat: 3a-11a / holiday availability required

Pay: $22.50-$24.94/hour (previous experience taken into consideration) 

Requirements:

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

• At least 2 years in a retail environment; preferably in the natural foods/grocery industry 
• Previous leadership experience 
• Previous overnight experience preferred

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership 

• Leads, trains, and motivates the Grocery staff ensuring a collaborative, positive, and high performing environment 
• Ensures that staff follows all department and store policies and procedures
• Communicates any staff issues or problems to the Overnight Grocery Assistant Manager 
• Ensures staff remains busy throughout shift, including downtime, and that they are working safe 
• Maintains and delegates cleaning tasks in the Grocery Department 
• Trains new staff members and provides ongoing training to staff; including but daily task lists, appropriate sanitation and cleaning procedures
• Seeks the advice of additional management (Overnight Grocery Assistant Manager, Center Store Manager) when posed with a questionable issue. 
• Communicates regularly with the Overnight Grocery Assistant Manager and Center Store Manager; notifies of any issues as necessary. 

Department Operations  

• Sets the floor to receive the Overnight Delivery 
• Operates the loading dock and hand jack or power jack to distribute pallets to receiving or throughout the store 
• Directs staff to prioritize the breakdown and sorting of pallets and product 
• Directs staff to prioritize the order in which product should be worked to the shelf
• Directs staff to prioritize the order in which backstock should be worked 
• Communicates any delivery or product issues with the Overnight Manager and Center Store Manager
• Works with Overnight Manager to create a nightly recap email to handoff any leftover tasks to the Center Store Manager 
• Acts as a point-of-contact for any vendors working after-hours in store 
• Communicates any emergencies with Store Director (power outage, cooler failure, etc)
