Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices

Principal Engineer position within Johnson & Johnson's MedTech Electrophysiology division in Irvine, California, focused on advancing catheter development from concept through commercialization. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with mentorship of junior engineers and collaboration across internal and external research partners to deliver clinically relevant cardiovascular devices.

Responsibilities

Lead catheter development projects from initial concept through commercialization with limited supervision
Design validation protocols and prototype development tools to ensure safety and regulatory readiness
Drive technical decisions, manage project milestones, and de-risk designs for manufacturing transition
Mentor junior engineers and serve as expert resource for peers on critical methods and research
Support knowledge transfer activities and prepare technical documentation for regulatory submissions

Requirements

Expert-level knowledge of engineering methods and software/systems engineering practices
Demonstrated experience leading complex projects from concept to commercial production
Strong background in medical device development, validation, and regulatory processes
Proficiency in prototype design, validation protocols, and manufacturability assessment
Experience with cross-functional collaboration and knowledge transfer activities
Mentoring capability and ability to provide technical guidance to junior engineers
