The Opportunity

Our client, a multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm, is looking for an experienced structural engineer to lead building projects in its Atlanta office.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving design problems and taking responsibility for a project from the first client conversation through final delivery. You'll stay involved in the engineering while guiding the team, managing project commitments, and working directly with clients, architects, and contractors.

The work includes new buildings and improvements to existing facilities across commercial, institutional, industrial, and federal projects. The position also offers room to mentor engineers and help shape the structural team's growth.

What You'll Be Doing

• Plan and oversee structural assignments, including staffing, schedules, project fees, and budgets.
• Perform and review structural calculations, designs, details, and drawings for steel, concrete, and masonry buildings.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and project partners to resolve design questions and keep deliverables consistent.
• Serve as a client contact, explain technical recommendations, and address issues as projects move forward.
• Guide engineers through design decisions and help less experienced team members develop their skills.
• Prepare scopes of work, fee proposals, and qualifications materials for prospective projects.
• Support business development through client relationships and participation in new project opportunities.
• Work with colleagues in other offices when projects call for additional expertise or resources.

What We're Looking For

• Approximately 10 to 15 years of structural engineering experience, including building design.
• A bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) registration.
• Practical design experience with steel, concrete, and masonry structures.
• Experience leading project teams and managing budgets, deadlines, and competing priorities.
• Working knowledge of structural analysis software and drafting or building modeling tools, such as RISA, RAM Structural System, ETABS, AutoCAD, or Revit.
• The ability to read technical drawings, communicate clearly, and work through design issues with clients and project teams.
• An interest in mentoring engineers and contributing to client development.

Experience with timber or light-gauge steel is helpful. Familiarity with local permitting authorities, involvement in the Atlanta engineering community, and project management certifications are also welcome.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual salary of $130,000 to $150,000, based on experience and qualifications.
