Prison officer - HMP Elmley Location: HMP Elmley, Church Rd, Eastchurch, Sheerness ME12 4DZ Salary and hours: £39,375 per year for a 39 hour week (includes 20% unsocial). Other hourly options: 37 hrs – £37,246; 41 hrs – £41,503. Responsibilities Protect the public and make a positive impact on prisoners’ lives. Maintain safety of the prison, secure the detention environment and respond to incidents. Support prisoners through counselling, teaching or other supportive roles. Work shift patterns which include evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays. Build constructive, positive, professional relationships with prisoners and colleagues. Requirements At least 18 years old. Meet Civil Service nationality requirements. Pass a medical and fitness assessment, including eyesight and hearing tests. Comply with eyesight standards in both eyes, with or without corrective lenses. Have suitable standard of hearing without hearing aids. Ensuring tattoos are not offensive, discriminatory, violent or intimidating (facial tattoos generally not acceptable except for cultural, religious or medical reasons). For category A prisons, have resided in the UK for the last 3 years. Nationality requirements Republic of Ireland nationals Commonwealth nationals with right to work in the UK EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein nationals and their family members with settled or pre‑settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme. Individuals with limited leave to remain or indefinite leave to remain who were eligible to apply for EUSS on or before 31 December 2020.
