Staff Nurse

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through effective diagnosis and treatment. This role includes advocating for individuals and families while ensuring compliance with standards of practice and professional development as outlined by the New York State Nurse Practice Act and other relevant guidelines. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment that focuses on patient-centered care.

Job Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care, acting as the primary or accountable nurse as designated.
• Educate patients and their families on health promotion and disease management utilizing available resources.
• Administer medications safely in accordance with nursing policies and pharmacology knowledge.
• Share responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization, including staffing, time management, and supplies.
• Comply with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and policies.
• Participate in the Nursing Shared Governance Model through support of the Unit Council and involvement in improvement initiatives.
• Engage in professional development and complete mandatory education requirements.
• Integrate nursing research and current evidence into practice.
• Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

• 6 months to 3 years of nursing (RN) experience.
• 0 to 3 years of management experience.
• More than 5 years of direct experience.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Judgment and critical thinking abilities.
• Organizational skills and understanding.
• Effective planning and time management.
• Problem-solving capabilities.
• Commitment to quality and reliability.
• Knowledge of safety and risk management practices.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.

Education

• Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Current NYS RN License.
• BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
• Unit-specific requirements per the Compliance Matrix.

Preferred Certifications & Licensure

• Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
• Relevant skills certification (i.e., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by the unit assigned.

Schedule Notes

This position requires night shifts, 12-hour shifts, totaling 36 hours per week, including working every third weekend. Blocked scheduling can usually be accommodated based on current needs.

The organization is seeking candidates with at least 2 years of experience in labor and delivery, experience in the operating room (circulating), familiarity with high-risk obstetrics, and the ability to perform vaginal exams. Candidates should possess NRP and FM certifications, as well as ACLS and BLS certifications.
