Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment and facilities at the feed mill. This position ensures all machinery operates safely and efficiently to support daily feed production goals. The technician will assist with preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, and emergency repairs under the direction of the Feed Mill Maintenance Manager.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Reporting Relationships

• Reports directly to the Feed Mill Maintenance Manager.
• Works closely with the Control Room Operator, Production, and Safety teams.
• No direct reports.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repair

• Perform daily inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on mill equipment, including conveyors, motors, augers, gearboxes, mixers, and elevators.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and minor electrical issues.
• Replace belts, bearings, shafts, and other worn or damaged parts as needed.
• Assist in diagnosing equipment malfunctions and implementing corrective actions.
• Support scheduled shutdowns and system upgrades.

Equipment Operation & Safety

• Operate tools and machinery such as welders, grinders, drills, lifts, and forklifts safely and effectively.
• Follow all safety policies, including lockout/tagout, confined space, and PPE requirements.
• Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas.
• Identify and report safety hazards, equipment issues, or potential failures immediately.

Preventive Maintenance & Documentation

• Assist with implementing the mill's preventive maintenance (PM) schedule.
• Complete work orders, log repairs, and update maintenance records accurately.
• Monitor equipment performance and communicate recommendations for improvement.
• Support parts inventory management by requesting needed supplies or components.

Support & Communication

• Coordinate with production and control room teams to minimize downtime during repairs.
• Participate in daily shift meetings to review maintenance priorities.
• Communicate effectively with team members and leadership on maintenance status.
• Provide after-hours or weekend support as needed for breakdowns or emergencies.

Skills, Education, and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade certification preferred.
• Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in industrial or agricultural maintenance.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, welding, hydraulics, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and work orders.
• Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
• Experience working in a feed mill, grain, or manufacturing environment preferred.
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Requires frequent standing, bending, climbing, and use of hand tools.
• Must be able to work in dusty, hot, cold, or noisy environments.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when necessary.
• Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
