Clinical Coordinator III (RN) - Hematology & Oncology (Leukemia)

The Clinical Coordinator III (RN) provides high-quality patient care and education in an outpatient clinical setting for the Leukemia team within the Division of Medical Hematology/Oncology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. This role reports directly to the Outpatient Oncology Nursing Directors and works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to support patients throughout their treatment journey.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants (MD/NP/PA) to manage leukemia patients in the outpatient setting.
  • Assist with bone marrow procedures, including preparation, sterile setup, specimen collection, documentation, and patient monitoring.
  • Coordinate all aspects of patient care across consultation, treatment, and recovery in collaboration with the care team.
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments (in-person, telephonically, and via EMR) within scope of practice.
  • Manage daily clinical activities, including lab and diagnostic follow-ups, symptom management, and treatment planning.
  • Coordinate patient care with infusion center and inpatient teams and ensure accurate scheduling of treatments.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate patient education plans related to oncology care and treatment regimens.
  • Address psychosocial needs of patients and caregivers in relation to diagnosis and treatment.
  • Deliver compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to patients and families.
  • Communicate patient status and needs to MD/NP/PA teams in a timely and clinically appropriate manner.
  • Facilitate prior authorizations as needed.
  • Prepare and review treatment calendars with patients.
  • Integrate cultural competence into all aspects of care delivery.
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary care teams to ensure continuity across all phases of treatment and follow-up.
  • Perform additional related duties and responsibilities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of related RN experience and/or clinical training.
  • Current New York State RN license and BLS certification.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic clinical environment with scheduling flexibility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in medical oncology.

Other Requirements

  • Medical clearance and participation in the medical surveillance program
    • Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
    • Wear N-95 respirator
    • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
