Harness Design Specialist

Overview We are seeking a Harness Design Specialist to support NASA’s deep‑space exploration initiatives at Barrios Technology. The role involves concept development, integration, and manufacturing of harness systems that enable safe and efficient space missions. Responsibilities Assist in harness design from concept and component selection through to production, qualification, and system integration. Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary stakeholders to gather harness design objectives and requirements. Develop harness design solutions within a CAD environment and manage technical trade studies to meet stakeholder objectives and internal standards. Generate electrical schematics to support flight and qualification designs. Perform mechanical and electrical analysis and physical testing of harnesses, including thermal, load, vibration, and shock assessments. Create and issue manufacturing documentation and drawings on schedule. Conduct R&D investigations and trade studies to advance harness design in mass and cost efficiencies. Perform other assigned duties as required. Qualifications Required Education, Experience, and Skills BS degree in Engineering from an accredited school plus 5 years of related experience. Or BS degree + 10 years of experience (expected Master’s may be acceptable). Or BS degree + 15 years of experience (Master’s or higher preferred). Or BS degree + 20 years of engineering experience. MS degree may substitute for 2 years of appropriate experience. Engineering or operations experience in space systems. Five years of electro‑mechanical wire harness design experience. Proficiency with CAD and Windchill. Experience with wire harness 3D design, wiring diagrams, and analysis of avionics enclosures and secondary structure. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills with attention to detail. Capability to solve complex design problems under tight schedules with minimal supervision. Passion for the commercial space industry and space exploration. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, autonomous environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong personal accountability and drive to succeed. Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills Experience with Human Space Exploration programs (Gateway, ISS, Orion, etc.). Proficiency in Creo. Wire harness component selection and qualification experience. General wire harness analysis, testing, and qualification experience. Master of Science degree in Engineering. Essential Requirements Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation. Post‑offer applicants and employees are subject to drug testing per policy. Work may involve prolonged sitting, lifting up to 25 lbs, and mobility requirements for test facilities. Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.) provided. Regular attendance required; flexibility for peak periods and surge requirements. Team‑based work environment and professional conduct expected.
