The City of Alvin offers an excellent benefit package including a voluntary Mission Square 457 deferred compensation program and membership in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS). Employee's medical, dental and vision are paid at 100% and 50% of their dependents. The City pays 100% of long-term disability and accidental death premiums; and provides a $25,000 life insurance policy and an additional death benefit for full time employees.
Job Announcement: Under direct supervision, maintains the City jail facility and follows established procedures and policies to ensure the Care, Custody and Control of prisoners, as well as the safety and well-being of City personnel and the public. The incumbent must be able to exercise independent judgment and perform duties according to detailed instructions with strict adherence to prescribed standards and procedures, without close supervision. Reports directly to the Detention Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications: Requires a high school diploma or GED supplemented by up to six months of experience in jail operations, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements: The Detention Officer is classified as an "Emergency Essential" position as described in the City of Alvin's Personnel Policy Manual. These employees may be required to remain or respond in the event of emergency conditions and be available immediately before (Pre-Impact), during (Emergency Period), and/or after the disaster or emergency condition (Post Impact/Recovery), to perform duties directly related to the emergency conditions as determined by the City.
Salary: Starting salary is $17.98
