Emergency Veterinarian

THE JOB As an Emergency Veterinarian, you will handle all types of emergency cases, from routine treatment to complex surgeries, including exotic animals. You will lead the floor team, act as a customer advocate, and continually develop your knowledge through on-the-floor guidance, VEG Education programs, and unlimited ER‑focused CE. WHAT YOU'LL DO Answer medical questions over the phone Create and conduct triage and spikes to bring patients to care quickly Collect signalment, presenting complaint, vitals, and perform physical exams Perform required investigations such as ultrasounds, X‑rays, bloodwork, and biopsies Diagnose each pet and devise a diagnostic and therapeutic plan Communicate diagnosis and treatment options directly with customers Prepare and present cost estimates to customers Maintain accurate medical records Advocate for tests and treatments by addressing customer concerns Perform minor and major emergency surgeries Perform endoscopic procedures Educate customers on after‑care and preventive measures WHAT YOU NEED A DVM or equivalent degree Experience in emergency medicine, including soft‑tissue surgery and endoscopy Strong teamwork skills and enthusiasm for a hospital culture (retreats, team dinners, happy hours) Ability to stand for prolonged periods, kneel, lift up to 25 kg independently, and support up to 40 kg with assistance Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays on a rotating or as‑needed basis Comfort working in a fast‑paced, noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors WHO YOU ARE Empathetic, people‑centric, and supportive of colleagues and owners Humble, willing to acknowledge mistakes, share credit, and lift team achievements Owner of your work, committed to impactful long‑term results Curious, asking insightful questions, and constantly seeking learning opportunities HOW WE INVEST IN YOU Competitive compensation, base and 401(k) match Comprehensive health and wellness benefits from day one, including QPR training and free therapy or counseling Eligibility for equity after one year of full‑time, active employment Unlimited ER CE and a travel stipend ($2,500/year for credentialed, $1,000/year for uncredentialed staff) Clinical student loan repayment assistance Paid parental leave up to 10 weeks at 100% salary with inclusive fertility and family‑building care Flexible work schedules to support life outside of work Generous referral program and other employee perks such as scrubs, swag, and kitchen snacks DEI VEG believes diversity fuels innovation and kindness.
