Job Title: Data Center Technician 2 (Critical Services) Job Description
This role supports a critical services data center environment by performing hands-on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general facilities maintenance across multiple sites. You will work primarily on an overnight schedule, follow detailed operating procedures, and ensure the reliable operation of building systems and infrastructure. The position offers the opportunity to convert from a contract role to a full-time employee after the contract period.
Responsibilities
Work in a critical data center environment and follow stringent processes, procedures, and safety standards in all daily activities.
Follow prescribed Methods of Procedure (MOP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP) when performing tasks and responding to issues.
Assist with building operations, including routine inspections, building walk-throughs, and documentation of findings.
Support building inspections, procurement of bids, oversight of staff, and coordination of building operations and projects as directed by leadership.
Perform timely completion of assigned work orders and ensure high-quality, accurate work.
Conduct regular walk-throughs of building spaces to identify temperature irregularities, equipment issues, and other facility concerns.
Perform rounds and readings on all designated equipment and spaces, documenting results in a consistent manner.
Maintain and organize keys for all spaces, ensuring quick and knowledgeable access to areas as needed.
Patrol building exteriors, remove garbage, and sweep lots and walkways as required to maintain a clean and safe environment.
Meet with contractors as needed, monitor their work, and ensure compliance with standards and scope.
Monitor all subcontracted work and escalate issues or concerns as appropriate.
Assist in roof maintenance and repair activities as directed.
Perform snow removal, salting, and other groundwork as required to maintain safe access to facilities.
Conduct touch-up painting and drywall patching as needed to maintain building appearance.
Perform miscellaneous troubleshooting and problem solving for building systems and facility issues.
Monitor utility usage and support building energy management and preventive maintenance activities.
Report any facility problems to the immediate supervisor in a timely and clear manner.
Check all mechanical equipment as part of daily rounds and readings, including HVAC units, pumps, motors, VFDs, boilers, and related systems.
Maintain mechanical equipment as directed, following preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
Check and maintain chemical treatment systems as instructed.
Respond to HVAC complaints and resolve issues in a safe and efficient manner.
Inspect roofs and drains as directed and address or escalate issues as needed.
Maintain doors and other access equipment as directed, ensuring proper function and security.
Monitor and escalate issues related to access control equipment and CCTV systems.
Check interior and exterior lighting as directed, identifying and addressing deficiencies.
Perform electrical work such as bulb and ballast replacement as directed.
Troubleshoot electrical systems up to 480V in a safe and reliable manner, following all safety protocols.
Perform minor plumbing repairs and services as required.
Maintain accurate logs of maintenance performed and record all issues encountered in a consistent and prescribed manner.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, eyewear, and safety shoes when necessary.
Comply with all site-specific company and OSHA safety rules and regulations at all times.
Work unaccompanied and as part of a team, depending on the task and operational needs.
Provide on-call support during rotational weekend coverage and respond to issues at multiple sites as required.
Travel between different sites, including locations up to approximately 19 miles apart, to support operations.
Work both interior and exterior environments as required by operational needs.
Essential Skills
Ability to work overnight shifts from 11:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning, and participate in a rotational weekend on-call schedule.
Ability to work in a critical environment and adhere strictly to established processes and procedures.
Ability to quickly learn, absorb, and consistently follow a stringent set of MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs.
Capability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds safely and routinely.
Ability to use ladders and work at heights up to 30 feet in a safe and reliable manner.
Willingness and ability to work unaccompanied and as part of a team, depending on task requirements.
Flexibility to work overtime, on-call, diverse shifts, and weekends as required by operations.
Willingness to work at different sites as required, including traveling between multiple locations.
Ability to work both indoors and outdoors as required by the role.
Ownership of a reliable method of transportation to support travel between sites.
General knowledge of basic mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems, and the ability to apply this knowledge to a wide variety of challenges.
Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems safely up to 480V.
Experience or strong aptitude in facilities maintenance, including mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and basic building systems.
Capability to use and understand a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Experience or exposure to MEP and HVAC systems, such as those found in large apartment complexes or similar facilities.
Ability to accept ongoing training, instruction, constructive feedback, and direction in a professional manner.
Strong punctuality and reliability in attendance and work completion.
Good client-facing and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
Ability to maintain accurate maintenance logs and records of issues encountered.
Commitment to comply with all site-specific safety rules and OSHA regulations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Technical diploma preferred, particularly in a mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or related technical field.
Experience working in large apartment complexes, commercial facilities, or similar environments with MEP and HVAC systems.
Prior experience in a data center or critical environment is a plus but not required.
Familiarity with building access control systems and CCTV monitoring is beneficial.
Basic carpentry skills, including drywall patching and minor repairs.
Experience with boiler systems and related mechanical equipment.
Ability to perform minor plumbing repairs and general building maintenance.
Comfort with performing snow removal, salting, and other exterior groundwork as needed.
Experience coordinating with contractors and monitoring subcontracted work.
Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and general facilities systems.

Work Environment
This role is based in a critical services data center environment in Hartland, WI, with work extending across multiple nearby sites. The standard schedule is an overnight shift from 11:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning, with a rotational weekend on-call requirement that covers multiple sites located up to approximately 19 miles apart. You will work both indoors and outdoors, including mechanical rooms, roofs, building interiors, and exterior grounds, in varying weather conditions. The position involves regular use of ladders, work at heights up to 30 feet, and lifting of equipment or materials weighing at least 50 pounds. You will interact with mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, access control, CCTV, and building automation systems, and use a CMMS to manage work orders and record maintenance activities. Personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety eyewear, and appropriate footwear, is required as tasks dictate, and strict adherence to site-specific and OSHA safety standards is expected at all times. The environment is process-driven, with clearly defined MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs guiding day-to-day operations and responses to emergencies.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
