Job Summary:
The Medical Surgical Floor (MS) nurse position is located in a clinical setting requiring a nurse to provide both routine and complex nursing care. This full-time role involves working night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with a focus on patient assessment, medication administration, patient education, and care planning. The role demands independent practice and adherence to established protocols to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Job Details:

• Schedule: Night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, minimum of 36 hours per week
• Required Qualifications: Current New Mexico Registered Nurse (RN) license or current Compact state RN license; Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification via American Heart Association (AHA); at least 1 year of nursing experience in a similar clinical setting
• Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing (BScN), one year of experience in Medical Surgical Nursing
• Float: Float to all Medical/Surgical departments under supervision of the designated manager
• Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
• EMR Used: EPIC
• Dress Code: Grey scrubs
• Summary: The competent nurse, in the same or similar clinical setting, practices independently and demonstrates an awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. Provides both routine and complex care, with the ability to develop long-range goals and plans. Continues to develop the ability to manage contingencies of clinical nursing. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers to help manage the clinical situation.
• Responsibilities:
  • Meet expectations of applicable organizational competencies such as Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders
  • Utilize the nursing process including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients
  • Address increasing psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with their level of practice
  • Administer medications and treatments following proper protocols, monitor for side effects and effectiveness
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medication administration, and care provided
  • Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers
  • Identify issues and resources for patient care
