Plant Maintenance Technician Lead - 3rd Shift

Position Summary Athens Services seeks a Plant Maintenance Technician Lead to oversee the maintenance department, leading mechanics and cleaners to ensure the reliable operation of industrial equipment and the MRF facility. Essential Job Functions Lead and manage all maintenance activities, prioritizing tasks based on safety and operational needs. Review productivity and progress of repairs, ensuring timely completion of all maintenance work. Oversee preventive maintenance programs to meet regulatory requirements. Promote a safe work environment, enforce safety practices, and facilitate monthly safety meetings. Apply strong troubleshooting skills with conveyors, motor controls, VFDs, PLCs (Allen Bradley), and hydraulics. Audit processes and procedures, document all repairs, and implement process improvements. Manage parts inventory and maintain organization for efficient operation. Provide coaching and mentorship to all maintenance staff, fostering teamwork and positive work behaviors. Ensure all staff have the tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily tasks. Promote the use of technology and information systems, such as Dossier, to improve shop performance. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 3 years experience supporting a maintenance department. Proficient in troubleshooting conveyors, electronics (motor controls, VFDs, PLCs), and hydraulics. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Self‑motivated, results‑oriented with documented success. Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email communication. Ability to learn internal maintenance software quickly. Experience implementing safety programs and processes. Leadership experience with organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills. Physical ability to perform required tasks with or without reasonable accommodations. Preferred Qualifications Extensive background as a mechanic with three or more years of hands‑on experience. Waste industry experience. Mechanical school certificates or trade school certification. Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Valid Class “A” or “B” driver’s license and good driving record. Welder certification. Experience in rock & sand, concrete, or asphalt industries.
