Description:

The Electrical & Solar Estimator develops accurate, competitive, and complete estimates for commercial electrical and solar construction projects to support successful project acquisition and execution.

Tasks / Duties / Responsibilities

• Prepare estimates for commercial electrical and solar construction projects.
• Review drawings, specifications, RFPs, contracts, and other bid documents to understand project scope and requirements.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Solicit, review, and compare vendor and subcontractor quotations.
• Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, long-lead equipment, schedule risks, and other project risks during estimating.
• Develop clear proposal scope, assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, clarifications, and alternates as appropriate.
• Coordinate with Design to ensure layouts, equipment selections, quantities, and estimating assumptions are aligned.
• Collaborate with Revenue and other stakeholders on project strategy, pricing, and proposal development.
• Participate in estimate reviews and obtain required approvals before proposals are released.
• Follow MVE Group’s GATE process and complete required estimating deliverables and documentation at each applicable stage.
• Support Preconstruction after award by providing the final estimate, bill of materials (BOM), scope information, vendor quotations, assumptions, exclusions, and other information required for project turnover.
• Identify major equipment, material packages, and long-lead items requiring attention during project planning.
• Work with Operations and Preconstruction to compare estimating assumptions with project performance and incorporate lessons learned into future estimates.
• Maintain organized estimating records and current cost, labor, and vendor information.
• Stay current on electrical and solar construction methods, products, technologies, and market conditions that may impact project costs.
• Identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy, efficiency, tools, and processes.

Requirements:

Skills / Abilities / Attributes

• Strong understanding of electrical construction methods, materials, labor, equipment, and project documentation.
• Working knowledge of commercial solar construction methods and systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, RFPs, contracts, and technical documents.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills with the ability to develop accurate quantity takeoffs and project costs.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify scope gaps, inconsistencies, and project risks.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
• Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across Revenue, Design, Preconstruction, Operations, vendors, and subcontractors.
• Sound judgment and the ability to develop reasonable estimating assumptions when complete information is not available.
• Proficiency with estimating software, digital takeoff tools, spreadsheets, and other construction technology.
• Self-motivated, accountable, and committed to continuous improvement.

Education, Experience, and/or Certification Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience estimating commercial electrical construction, solar construction, or both.
• Electrical field experience is a plus.
• Experience reading and interpreting electrical construction drawings and specifications preferred.
• Experience with electrical estimating and digital takeoff software preferred.
• Journeyman or Master Electrician license is a plus but not required.
