Child Nutrition Manager

Ambition Preparatory Charter School is a new college preparatory elementary and middle school in Jackson, MS that commits to providing high-quality instruction and intensive academic supports to students K-8. Responsibilities And Duties Reports to work on time, in proper uniform, ready to work Coordinates ordering of foods, supplies, chemicals, produce, direct delivery items Ensures perpetual, daily, and monthly inventory of foods, supplies, and chemicals Ensures keeping storerooms and walk‑ins in order and proper supply levels Works with various software applications, entering and retrieving data as needed and grocery orders Ensures daily deposits in accurate method, and with change fund for registers Demonstrates a working knowledge and assures compliance of USDA regulations, nutrition standards, culinary standards, food sanitation standards, and workplace safety standards Coordinates the completion of all necessary paperwork such as accident reports, negative balance letters, employee counseling forms, daily sales and meal count, production records, inventory, food safety, and workplace safety sheets Assists with the coordination of menus and analysis Assigns and determines employee daily work schedules and duty assignments Ensures processing (pre‑approving) and assimilating free and reduced meal applications Ensures the kitchen and dining facilities are clean Ensures batch cooking and the freshest and highest quality of food production occurs Trains food service employees with support of supervisor Leads team meetings and problem solving with staff Helps where needed when duties are completed Performs other duties assigned by supervisor or administrator Meal Service Ensures the up of the serving line and breakfast carts each day, ensuring proper setup Ensures all items on the menu are placed on the serving line in the proper order, at the proper amounts, at the proper temperatures, and on time Ensures correct serving utensils are in place and that condiments and cutlery are provided Uses serving utensils correctly to ensure correct portions are served Understands what constitutes a reimbursable meal under Offer Versus Serve (OVS) and ensures OVS is properly implemented for both breakfast and lunch Serves students quickly and efficiently to adhere to the school’s meal schedules Coordinates the preparation and serving of meals to the highest quality that encourages student consumption and participation in the school breakfast and lunch programs Provides outstanding customer service to students, parents, staff, visitors, and fellow employees Sanitation, Safety & Security Follows all local health department requirements for food safety Monitors temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, and milk coolers daily, recording temperatures on the appropriate log and notifying food service coordinator if temperatures are above 10F (freezer) or 41F (refrigerator/cooler) Takes and records temperature of foods to ensure they are cooked to the proper internal temperature, chilled to the appropriate temperature, and placed on the serving line at the appropriate temperature Performs general cleaning tasks and follows cleaning schedule Follows wash, rinse and sanitize procedures for ware washing Assists the food service coordinator in ensuring the security of all food and supplies Coordinates receiving of all incoming food and supply deliveries Ensures stocking of all incoming deliveries and adheres to established food storage procedures Program Regulations & Accountability Maintains integrity and accountability of the School Nutrition Program through compliance with federal, state, and local regulations Ensures students receive all required meal components and that all meals served meet reimbursable meal requirements Assists food service coordinator in maintaining all records and reports to meet local, state, and USDA requirements, including daily production records and temperature logs Complies with school mission and vision Ensures all USDA and state child nutrition guidelines are implemented Ensures redbook and documentation is accurate and up to date Equipment Use & Care Operates and maintains commercial kitchen equipment safely and sanitarily Follows policies for the use and care of all equipment Reports any malfunctioning equipment to food service coordinator Communicates effectively with supervisors, school administrators, vendors, and fellow employees Desired And Required Experience High school graduate or equivalent Previous volume‑feeding experience in an institutional, restaurant, or educational environment (school cafeteria experience preferred) Knowledge of food preparation, general cooking, food storage, cleaning procedures and meal service ServSafe certification required Excellent communication skills Knowledgeable in food service POS and management systems required Knowledgeable in food service nutrition analysis applications required Knowledgeable in Primero Edge required Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees and as part of a team Ability to provide friendly and outstanding customer service to students and others Physical Capabilities This is a physically demanding job that requires standing for extended periods, lifting heavy objects regularly, and performing repetitive tasks with few breaks. The incumbent must be willing and able to work in a hot environment and be able to take a physical inventory in freezers and refrigerators where temperatures may be as low as 0F.
